The Deep Sea (Journey Thread)

Postby FriendHouse » Mon Nov 27, 2023 2:24 pm

Hello all!

Im still getting used to this website. Ive been viewing a lot of threads and reading your stories, and I was inspired to start my own journey thread. I believe I've made an introduction here already, but Im having difficulty finding my way around this website and my own posts so Its possible i didn't post that correctly.

So...Currently, we know of nine alters so far. Some have only fronted twice or thrice, but that's what we know so far. We have no distinct host, but I am one of the more frequent fronters.

I believe from everything we know, I am one of the longer-standing alters, having formed in childhood. I was told by our T to not seek out new alters intentionally, but to let them come to you.

We haven't been in a safe environment for all that long...and seeing as we're only accepting our diagnosis now and we've already discovered nine, I always have a slight anxiety that our system will end up being hundreds of thousands.

For the record, I don't think we're polyfragmented. Everyone we've seen so far has a pretty formed identity, even the ones we dont know much about. I even apologized to our T, I said 'I know 9 is a lot so far', but I got told anything under 15 is considered small and manageable. Of course, if i end up having over 15 theres nothing wrong with that either, but It really put stuff into perspective.

The last thing I'll say: Family's been over a lot lately and I get easily overwhelmed, so Im thinking of taking today a little softer then I usually do.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi Glen..welcome.

I think it's a common experience that when you find yourself in a safer place that more alters may appear. It also happened to us.

Things seem to settle down eventually and they will either decide whether they want to be part of daily life or remain inside. We found keeping a journal helps and having at least one space (ie here or with your therapist) where they feel they can come out and introduce themself if they want to can help too.

You only have as many alters as you need to have. No more, no less.

When you need more, you split more or have more that are active at any given time. When things get better and you need less, some alters become inactive or they integrate/fuse when their traumas are healed.

I started polyfragmented with hundreds/thousands of shards gathered under global identities as well as some well-formed "whole" alters. Now it's very quiet, very few active identities, lots of fusions happened and I'm presently at the stage of functional multiplicity.

Things can heal FAST once you're on the right track. So, find your track and let's get ready to heal! Choo choo! All aboard the therapy train!
