T doesn't have experience with Did, thoughts

Postby spinningtops » Thu May 06, 2021 5:07 am

what do others do if t doesn't really deal with did much or htey say they don't have much experience with it? for me so far i am for the most part not really talking about it. it seems like wouldn't it would be weird to? well they do deal with disassociation or at least his page says so, and that is a pretty key thing, so i think it's okay, but yeah. it feels weird cause there will be a lot of stuff that is not really talked about i guess, or i won't know if they would understand

Hi,

It's kind of complicated here. There are not that many Ts who have experience with DID and some of the ones that are trained in it believe weird $#%^ about integration and alters being just projections and stuff. Our big thing is our T has to be open and honest. They have to believe we're real people and be willing to learn from us - not just have some people we don't know telling them weird $#%^. Let's face it. Nobody's going to really understands this $#%^ unless they've lived it.

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

Every T I've seen has been clueless. I think it would be OK if they listened, and tried to understand our experience, but they all get hung up on trying to make us fit this idea they have in their head so far.

So far they tried to put me in the hospital on a three day hold when I actually switched in the office, phoned my husband and "educated" him about DID, which basically boiled down to me being a filter that the host hides behind, and insisting if I took anti-psychotics the voices would go away. I would go away. I've been on them three TIMES and it never made a difference.

But, I really think if you get one that will listen instead of telling you, it would be OK.
