Scared to talk to myself

Postby Amoomin » Thu Apr 01, 2021 7:15 pm

Hi. I'm new here. Thank you so much for letting me in here. So glad I found this forum. I see that you give and receive so much support ❤️ Have ben diagnosed with did. I struggle with communication, even after years of trauma therapy.

My parts talk to my T and my husband, but not to me. We are about to start "self-talk" because that's something I can't do. When I had lots of time loss and was much worse, my alters used to comment stuff all the time, or yell at me. (I thought it was just thoughts). Then it sort of went quiet, I even felt lonely. But now they only start talking if I am very stressed, and all in a blur. I am afraid I will never be able to communicate with my alters. Have ben in denial so much. It helped getting diagnosed.

Does anyone have advice? I know this is something I have to do, and that therapy wont move on to inner mearings before I manage to talk ti them inside. I do a lot of self- sabotaging because my alters cant agree om anything. I just want to be able to talk with them.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

There are many ways to communicate within a system. Self-talk is only one of them. Other tools include but are not limited to:

  • a shared diary
  • a bullet journal
  • notes in the phone
  • a text document on the computer
  • a private Discord room
  • a private, hidden Facebook page or group
  • a private blog that outsiders cannot see (protected by password, for example)
  • posting on this forum
  • apps such as WhatsMock or Simply Plural or Joplin or diary apps...
  • everything and anything you feel comfortable using: recording voice/video messages, drawing, painting, poetry, picture collages...

Do not hesitate to try many ones and see who responds and who likes using what type of method within your system!

I never liked writing in a journal. Last time I wrote in one was when I was a teenager and my parents found it. Bad news! But I recently took up to writing just the other day. I try to make a small entry every day. I notice my hand writing is different one day to the next but I remember writing it. Haha so weird. Best of luck! And like I said. Start small. It can be overwhelming but just a couple sentences can really help. Xo
