Treat child alters the same way you treat children. You set rules and you reward them for following those rules and punish them when they don't. Rewards can be simple - maybe they get to pick the movie to watch friday night, or they get a bowl of ice cream, or a rootbeer. Punishments are similarly simple. Maybe they have to do a timeout, or they aren't allowed to come out and play one evening.
The trick is being fair and realistic.

If I would let them, the younger ones would stay up all night watching TV. But I try to make them go to bed at a decent hour and I lie there keeping my eyes shut, listening to soft music until they finally get quiet and go to sleep. I also sprinkle lavender oil on my pillow. That seems to help them relax. They will wake me through out the night, that is what is the worst for me, Not staying asleep. I reward them with a tasty bowl of cereal close to bedtime, something like cocoa krispies or fruity pebbles. It is a comfort food for them, it reminds them of growing up with our grandmother, safe and sweet moments i shall treasure always.
Also, my littles like to watch cartoons. Bugs Bunny and The Jetsons seem to keep them pacified and also helps to calm them if they get upset. They have stuffed animals but their fav is a stuffed Panda named Pookie (hence the name on here).

it's neat the way we have so much in common! i do the same thing. i use lavender oil, have cocoa krispies, or hot chocolate when it's cold. my grandmother was very special to me too. i often cook or do things that remind me of her. wow

Yes my grandmother raised me and nothing bad happened in her house. Well with the exception of the self imposed hell I put myself in for several years. Now I am in a good place and with the exception of isolated events, I get along pretty well with all my alters. Amazing that when the grouchy one shows up, such a headache comes with her but then once she is gone, my mind is peaceful and everyone is quiet. I think they are just glad when she is back in her cave. It is cool that we do the same self soothing rituals with our alters. My little good girls did not get their nightly cereal because the grouch makes my tummy upset when she is there. I shall reward them tonight with their tasty cocoa krispies.
Hot chocolate is something too that reminds me of my nannie. I load the marshmallows in because that is the best part, lol.
Thanks for sharing Benny!!

Right now, as you read this, does it amount to anything more than a collection of thoughts and memories which are just transitory, and come and go in the mind like clouds in the sky? --

I'm the youngest!! LOL
I'm 13, my next alter is 15, then 18, then 35, then 40!! LOL
I can carry the whole weight of the world on myself and not have a problem, but as soon as I add my own, it's impossible.
Never know what you'll learn today - maybe something new. Did you know [insert traumatic experience] happened? Well today you had that flashback! Gee whiz, isn't life just WONDERFUL?

i used to think i had a lot of different child alters, but after journaling i found it was just a few with a full range of emotions. i don't mind them. most of the time they just want to feel safe and have fun. i used to worry about them coming out and embarassing me, but they don't. they're smart kids, and mature for they're age. sometimes they comfort me, and get me to lighten up.
