Is there much of a community here?

Postby ButterfliesAnonymous » Thu Mar 11, 2021 2:24 am

Hello all,

I am wanting to post on here to have another outlet available for my experiences and inner ongoings during my trauma recovery while living with OSDD. However, I wonder if posting here is the best idea at the same time. Part of me wants to have the most anonymity possible, but then I don't think that's too much of a problem. I guess I'm just wondering how the community is here. Do you guys interact with each other like a knit together online community or is it more like random strangers who pass by answer your posts? Also, is it regularly really active in this subforum?

I think we will be fine, but before posting anything too sensitive I wanted to ask my questions. Thanks a bunch.

Hi and welcome !

There's a group of long-term members that answer on a regular basis, but the activity here vary a lot depending on newcomers. It can be pretty active or more slow paced. However, it's rare to have no answer at all. Usually, it's because no one knows the answer to the question asked.

For the "knit community" vs "strangers", I would say this subforum is somewhere in the middle ? Maybe I'm wrong, but from what I see, it varies a lot from members to members. Some here are close friends, other (like me) just float around and answer when they feel they can help.

Honestly, it's the best DID community I've found online, and it's one of the most balanced forum I know. I've tried other groups, but this one is the only one I didn't leave.

<3 thank you so much for the kind words!

With certain forums no longer open, I can say this is easily the busiest forum in PF. We'd like to think our members are generally a pretty good bunch- and considering we're a collection of mental health forums- meaning we all have our issues and struggle with them- I think the folks in most all of them, especially DID, are a credit to PF.

It is what you make of it.

I am not very active here anymore but for years, when I needed it, I posted multiple times per day and always I felt heard and understood.

I felt like a newbie when I joined in Nov 2017. I had spent months reading posts on here, and felt so awed by some of the long-time posters. I was terrified to post here, but when they, and others, responded to my first post, it felt so welcoming and accepting.

This forum has been a huge support on my journey so far, and there are definitely people on here who are good friends to me, and some of their littles are the only real friends that my littles have. Posting on here helps me think things through and get others' perspectives, and it has helped me a lot when I have difficult times with my T.

Hi, i agree with what the others have said. I have been a member for a few years now and although i currently dip in and out, rarely posting, previously i have posted a lot more. Without exception, all responses made to me, or me to others, have been kind and supportive.
Its been an important place for me and continues to be.

Hi,

I like it here because you can post even if you're an insider/part/alter/whatever and not even an adult. Nobody gets mad or tells you not to just because you're a teen or a kid. People really try to help. There's a teen thread and a kids thread pinned to the top that are awesome too.

When they say 'be yourself',
which one do they mean?

I agree with many of the above posters. I've been here a few years and posted a lot more when I was first figuring things out. I often disappear while in denial phases and then come back now and then. Like any online forum, there is a wide spectrum of users and I find some more likeable or helpful than others, but overall it has been a very positive experience. I believe the people here have the best intentions and are all just seeking to connect better with themselves and others.
I really value having a place where people "get it" even if we're never gonna be super close with each other. It just feels nice to not have to "act normal".

Not speaking of DID forum in particular- but it's so very refreshing to not have to wear a mask, if for just a little while. We do not need masks in PF.

Agreeing with what other folks have said about this site and about this forum specifically. We came here in November 2014 while looking for an alternative to a site that we were planning to leave after participating in for close to two decades. The other forum had become vastly reduced in activity and in active membership, and we believed that it was time for a change.

This site appealed to us because, for one, they don't place restrictions on where specific types of insiders may post (such as limiting littles to a specific area). And they don't expect a specific member of a system to be more valid than the others inside, or dictate a paradigm as to how systems should function. There are sitewide rules, of course, as there should be, but there's none of the gatekeeping that some DID sites use to vet their members.

So....short story long, yes. There is indeed much of a community here. :)
