Not remembering a split/switch? More questions.

Postby KalliopePS » Wed Oct 28, 2020 2:09 pm

Hoping everyone is doing well today.

Last night my S/O and I were talking and they can remember a period of a few months (several years ago) in which she says, "You acted really different and everyone noticed."

I do not remember anything from that time period short of a notable period during a couple hour event when someone asked my S/O, "Is she OK? Did you break her?" (This was meant in jest, I am told.) I thought the question at the time was odd and the fact that people kept asking me if I was OK was extremely disturbing to me.

I remember what I was doing in general (life things, hobbys, studies, etc, Just before that period of time loss. I don't remember anything being weird about coming back. My S/O said the switch occurred immediately and the switch "back" seemed less immediate to her. Though with masking, who is to say. I don't remember it. Or maybe I split again? My S/O has brought this up a few times over and I have always felt at a loss to explain myself.

Can one have lost time and lose memory of it?

I am now wondering if I have more of this to discover.

Thank you all for being so helpful on the other posts.

It's very common to forget amnesia or time loss. Many systems are really good at hiding it from the host or from whoever is in front.

It's probably more likely to be someone who had been in existence than a new alter, unless something really traumatic happened right before the switch.

Things are still very confusing for us, and we found out about the others almost 3 1/2 years ago. Yesterday I woke up in what I am used to thinking as a "mood." Crying very easily, upset about not having loving parents. We saw the T, and rested for a bit, but the "mood" was still there. It felt like our whole day had fallen apart--all the things we were planning to do now seemed completely overwhelming and impossible. It felt like we weren't a part of that life--like we weren't someone who even had a life.

Then we took a nap, and when we woke up, everything was different. We were back in our life, able to get up and cheerfully do chores and all the things we had planned for the rest of the day. We had texted the T when we were feeling upset earlier, and although we could remember doing that, we had to look at it to remember what it said. There was no connection to those feelings--it was a different person who had done that.

I know that's not quite the same as losing time when it happens, but if we hadn't written those feelings down, we might have forgotten the whole thing and only remembered being "overtired" and needing to nap.

our main frontpeople used to never notice lost time
it was super subtle
they'd go from one mundane task to another & theyd never notice that something else happened inbetween
stealthy parts could also steal time during boring stuff
like waiting for an appointment or even walking int he park
it wasnt till they started journaling that they even knew it happened
cos writing stuff down made them think about it more

i think it gets better tho
cos we dont lose time so much anymore
except when we get really triggered
then we dissociate alot & lose time
like last week someone asked "what did you do yesterday"
and we didnt know
the whole day was missing
and we didnt notice till someone asked
but it was cos we got triggered the day before
