Strangers face in the mirror

Postby Western » Sat Oct 03, 2020 2:20 pm

I don't think I'm going mad but I can't ever remember this happening to me before.

I was taking a picture to sent to a friend and I had my camera on backwards. I was just staring at it for ages before I realised that it was actually my face on the screen. I'm not aware if I am dissociation at this present time. In fact I feel better than I have for a good few years.

Has anyone else had this happen to them when they are looking at themselves but not aware that it is them?

oOo It happens to us sometimes. We do not recognize ourselves in the mirror.

oOo Since we are dissociating badly lately, I also had to read our civil name from a note in order to be able to place an appointment, yesterday.

oOo My guess is that, it depends on the day, how much we dissociate, and other factors.

It was a strange thing really.

I've had it in the past where I've looked in the mirror and I've looked like a different version of myself but I've still recognised the reflection to be me. This time though it was like I was just looking at the image as if it was just an object. It meant absolutely nothing at all.

Then after about 30 seconds I said (out loud) "oh its me".

We have experienced that. It's more often that we recognize the face and know it isn't me, but we have failed to recognize the body a few times.
