Thanks, Viola. We're hanging in. We're in a more fortunate position than a lot of people, and we're grateful for that.

We definitely don't want to go back to working in NYC if we don't have to. To do so for so long was physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausting. We're aiming for something here in the suburbs.

Re: Laid Off After More Than 30 Years

Things have been a mixed bag for us lately with all of this.

On the positive side, we determined that once our former employer stops paying for COBRA on December 31, we'll stick with COBRA rather than switch to another plan. The COBRA plan is based on group rates that would continue for us even though we'd be paying for it as an individual. It's still a considerable expense, but less so than anything comparable in the Marketplace.

The career development / job search process is exhausting and at times demoralizing, made more so with COVID restrictions and our mental health issues factored in. Because we were employed at the same company for so long, evolving in the same general role, we have to prove that we've kept our skills current. And the fact that ours was a self-created niche role makes it even more difficult to translate into another opportunity.

Sigh.

It's good that you got your health insurance figured out. That's important.

Sending good thoughts and support for the job search. That sounds really tough.

Hi ms I don't know how I managed to miss this one but holy $#%^ that's tough.
Re proving you are up to date. In the UK we have something called continuous professional development credits. They are free courses by universities on various subjects that last between 2 g4 weeks when I started looking for work it was cos not my original digree that got me employment .

There is a website called future learn that has a great selection of cpd courses why not give it a shot?

Anyway good luck and happy job hunting. X eli
