There are so many different things you can do and if you join or go on a server a lot of times they'll have interesting mods or such. I find playing minecraft even alone is really soothing. something about the repetitive of act of mining in the game...having said that the Creeper's can do jump scares if you play in anything but peaceful so be aware of that lol.

Tosh is playing Minecraft with a friend of ours that we trust now and he seems to be enjoying it so much! Although we lack a mouse to play properly hahah this was a wonderful suggestion thanks!

AND ALSO, puzzles seem really cool we definitely will try them with our little! And quizzes online is definitely Lily's jam.

What is Minecraft exactly? I was put off by the blocky style graphics on the front of the packaging.Think its available on Switch too but never really worked out what type of game it was?

Do you fight anything? just build towns/worlds like a virtual lego?

We regularly troll Epic Games and Steam for their free games. Epic gives away TWO every week.

We've gotten some real gems on there, too- like Rime, Surviving Mars, and Totally Reliable Delivery Service (hilarious btw- very worth it for $30 (deluxe version, the reg is $15 or 20)).

You’re right it’s mostly building, but you can fight monsters in Minecraft if you have the difficulty set to anything higher then Peaceful. If you get the PC version, you can download shaders and texture packs to make it look different, and mods to change gameplay (I know there are mods that add new enemies but I’ve never played with them); people also make adventure maps you can download and play I think, at least they used to when I first got into the game.

As for games suggestions, I like Slime Rancher (you can find it on Steam). Calm, cute game where you take care of these alien creatures called slimes and make money off their ‘plorts’. There’s also Starbound, which is like Terraia (2D Minecraft basically) but in space (you can build, fight enemies, explore). I also second Stardew Valley! If you get a Switch, Animal Crossing and Untitled Goose Game are calm and good... if you want a more action-y game, XCOM 2 (strategy game where you fight aliens; it’s a all time fave of mine) is coming May 29th, but it might be too scary and too difficult for younger ones (you could try Mario vs Rabbids instead, which is similar gameplay but much more kid friendly.)

Ok thanks I don't have a PC. I remember having a game where you had to build a world from scratch years ago on the Sega Dreamcast, though can't remember the name of it now! I got bored with it though.

I'm playing though 'The World of Final Fantasy Maxima' on Switch at the minute. Loving the part where you can summon characters from previous FF games to fight in battles for you. I've just obtained 'Cloud' from FF7 which was one of my personal favourites! :D

Minecraft, stardew valley, slime rancher, those are some really good options. A lot of people here have good taste in games.
Final fantasy 14, the online version, is something I am currently playing a lot of. It's light and fun, though some storylines can be heavy, of course all dialog and cutscenes can be skipped. A lot of dialog is also funny and sweet. There's this line of dialog where a boy and a girl both like each other but don't tell anyone, and you always have to do tasks as the middleman. It is quite sweet and makes me laugh sometimes.
The nice thing about it is that you can have different classes which have different playstyles, so something for everyone. Unfortunately not everyone in my system like the character we play and want to make alt characters. This is possible though so nothing to worry about.
The downside is that the game picks up slow. I have had it since 2017 but only just got into it. The global cooldown for skills is 2.5 seconds, which is abnormally long. Global cooldown in World of Warcraft is 1.8seconds for reference.
The game itself is beautiful though.
Keep in mind that if you buy it, there is a different version for mac, windows, and steam. The windows version and steam version are not the same. Don't get tricked like me.
There is also a game called graveyard keeper. It is really enjoablye if you like stardew valley. But as it deals with graveyard keeping it might have a bit of a heavy tone to it. The game itself is full of lighthearted humor, so it doesn't feel harsh, but thats me, it might be rough for others.
If you get a switch, then rune factory 4 is like harvest moon amd stardew valley. Ive always loved the series.
There is also the world ends with you, but this also has some heavier tones to it. Beautiful game though.
Good luck.
Also. Dungeons and dragons. You can play that online and it is really fun.

What games are you planning to play through during lockdown? (seems the UK one maybe going on for a while yet, especially for those in the vulnerable groups).

Whilst doing some sorting the other day we found the old PS2 .....still works! Found some games too. Can't find the original memory cards though with all the save files on but managed to find a new one still in packaging that had been bought but never used so playing through FF10 and FFX-2 again from the beginning.

Makes you realise the graphics on that game were amazing considering it was the PS2 from over 15yrs ago! Though it takes ages to load compared to the Switch now!

Also about half way though 'World of Final Fantasy' on Switch. Not gonna bother rebuying FF7 for switch as I found the original version the other day. Did put it on briefly but the graphics felt blocky and dated and the controls awkward (the dual shock joysticks feature wouldn't work on that game for some reason) so decided to play through FFX again instead.

Still haven't got back to daily exercise on either the wii fit or ring fit! Seems too much effort to even switchover the games cartridge lately never mind start the exercises! But still hoping to find some energy from somewhere to restart a bit of exercise at least half an hour twice a week!

So what games are you guys planning to play if you're gonna be locked in for weeks yet? Any new releases you're looking forwards to coming out?

I started playing Sonic Mania. Also still have Terraria and Subnautica to play. :)

I've never played final fantasy. What kind of game is it?

They're classed as RPG (Role Play Games) Basically you play a character who usually has to get together with some others along the way to make a team and you fight monsters. Each character will have specific skills and you can earn more powerful attacks as your experience points increase. One may specialise in sword moves, one will be a 'summoner' who can summon other powerful guardians, another may have an healing or revive party ability so you don't have to use up all your potions. In battle you control what each character does via menu's and they take turns to make their move.

When moving around the map you will take control of the lead character or the vehicle/animal they are riding and the others will kind of follow, every so often a cut scene will trigger where they talk and the storyline advances suggesting where to do next or what/who you need to find or go to.

The Final Fantasy series were famous for their cut scenes which were like watching a small movie with amazing graphics (usually way better than those during gameplay, particuarly for the earlier games).

Some of the series have more 'cutesy characters', others especially the later games, the characters are more human/realistic looking with speech dialogue rather than an endless amount of text to read through to get the story.

The story's themselves were often more elaborate/immersive than anything else out there at the time so it felt like you were part of a real quest to save a world etc. Way ahead of their time! These days a lot more games are like this as its easier to do cos of current technology.

Check out Final fantasy on YT for the trailers and you'll see what I mean! Kind of like mini CGI movies before they existed in the mainstream films!
