It is very disconcerting to find one's username on display out there . I just want to reinforce what Johnny-Jack has said . Anonymity is the most important thing we can do to protect ourselves here .

There are always going to be lurkers and gawkers . Every forum has them and I too have seen things from different PF forums copied and pasted into other sites . It feels violating but the bottom line is that we have to accept that it's going to happen from time to time .

And who knows ? It may provide a guiding light to someone who is struggling and doesn't know where to turn .

The only thing I hope is, that it does not evolve into what we had through another plateform on another subject. People started leaking screenshots from the plateform on the sole purpose of laughing at the users and it evolved into internet bullying and all the nasties that go with it.

Problems of online bullying and other bad behaviors are exactly why I participate here, on this public viewable forum, and not on forums hidden behind password walls.

Concealment favors the perpetrator. Perpetrators are quite capable of giving false information to pass "vetting".

And far too many forums behind walls have no participation; they just collect email addresses and other information of everyone who signs up.

One forum I tried to sign up for, that seemed to be out in the open with a standard anonymous user account creation process, turned out to be something very different. The account creation software was "broken" and the "fix" was a highly intrusive amateur vetting. This was well meant but actually enabled perpetrators to enter the forum and, once "in", enjoy fatuous trust they did not earn and would betray. I watched that forum closely enough to see it happen; each time the admins would swoop in and delete all evidence of the stalking, bullying, and other abuses. But the damage to the victim was already done.

Also, in open forums like this it is a lot easier to track perpetrators who are using content taken from other forums.

Or educate the curious or clueless. We NEED better education and awareness, and if people come here, see what it REALLY is, and can refute the BS in movies- so much the better.

I agree with Una, it's safer like this. That logic makes it feel better. Also Zor is right about education although something in me still prefers less people knowing about DID because it's easy to pass through life unnoticed with DID if less people know about it - it feels like that but logically I know people being more educated about it is better.
