I think the answer can be either, or both.

In our system we have a large inner world that's like a village surrounded by a forest, with different buildings and areas and stuff, where alot of parts 'live'. Some of us can't get there tho. We haven't figured out the mechanics of all that yet.

I don't know how it was created, but afaik it has 'always' been there. Maybe it was made by some of us, like intentionally created to be how it is, or maybe it was like more subconsious? It's quite large and complex and a lot of our parts stay there, or hide there. Probably parts we haven't even uncovered yet.

We also have a 'new' area that we are deliberately building, one space at a time. I don't know if it should be called 'inner world' also, but it is separate from the 'village' world and even feels like it's connected a different part of our brain. (Like the village feels like its at the back of the head, the new area feels like its at the top/front of the head.)

So for us, it's a bit of both - something that seems to have happened by itself and has always existed, and also something we are intentionally building, slowly and deliberately.

Not being aware of it doesn't mean you don't have it.

Our 'village' inner world, like I said some of us can't get there, and it was like 9 or 10 months after we first found out about having DID that one of our other parts told us about it. Up till then we didn't know.

And the space that's being built now, we didn't even start on that till well over a year into our DID awareness. Maybe 18 months? And so far there's like 2 and and a half rooms lol. So it's slow going.

And that's just for us. Every system is different, it doesn't really help to compare yourselves to others especially on fine details.

Plus things take time. It can take a long while for parts to get comfortable enough with 'hosts' to really open up and trust and share and stuff.

I do not have an inner world like some have but more different places inside where different alters live. Some still live in the street we grew up in and I see them inside there. Others have their own places made, one of us lives in an ice skating ring, which is totally weird to me but she feels safe there. I havent found or been able to create a shared place yet.

I guess I am wondering why all these names are being mentioned in the chatter. Going on 7 in one week. Last night I was thinking about my niece, she is a month oldandI havent seen her yet and the thought I dont trust Matthew popped up. They dont come out though and why are these names coming out so much.
