Unfortunately with brains and what's going on in them even a brain scan cannot tell you. Dissecting a brain can not tell you.
The only way for you to know what's going on in your head and life is to ask yourself and then if you want to or can tell other people so they know.
You know I have loads of crazy stuff going on. I tell you nearly every time I reply to you because your posts seem so similar to how I feel or what goes on in my brain.
My crazy twin alters say they have alot of money and now they have to launder it. I never see any evidence of this because they don't trust anyone with their identity, which is obviously me, their money (including me) or anything. They say their crime enterprise is run by no-one but I found out that's just another alter of mine. They say Patrick works for no-one even though he's dead or no-one works for Patrick because he was the boss and now no-one is but their both alters. Apparently they're looking for someone to take over which I hope doesn't mean creation of another alter. But to the Twins crime is small fry. Their hacking operations, involvement in bitcoin, and pretty much anything you can think of Internet wise including stocks is down to them they say but they said you can trust white collar workers when you have a whole army of thugs etc also working for them so they're ok with that. They keep their main guy close as possible but not too close, clever guy but has issues. His meeting went well yesterday they said. I have not met him as an alter. They call him Internet Jesus.
My point is I went in and asked questions and I did not really like the answers. But I got answers.
So if I can go in and get answers inside my brain. I'm pretty sure you can go inside your brain and get answers.
Whether they make sense or you like them is gonna be down to you. There's a saying I like "When you're in the Baba Yaga's house be careful what questions you ask" The Baba Yaga is a Russian myth of a wise witch, the Internet seems to get that wrong, but she will give you very difficult tasks before you get the answers to your questions and very short time span to do it in.
I got my answers by first imagining I was in the baba Yaga's house. I imagine I actually live in the Baba Yaga's house so when I ask myself a question I get answers. And sometimes when I'm in my house and someone asks me a question I say "when you're in the Baba Yaga's house be careful what questions you ask" because sometimes the outside answers to outside people's questions are not the answers they want or need either.
There's a Wiccan saying "as above so below" and I apply that to my brain "as I am inside be it outside" as much as possible. I can't walk around like being the twins saying I'm a multi national crime lord billionaire, that'd be crazy lol. But I can treat people outside the way I treat people inside. Which I dunno if that's "good" or not. Because possibly I'm not very nice to myself internally. I dunno.
Anyway I think your therapist is correct. Ask inside. That's where your answers are. They might come back with madness like "I'm Tutankhamen" or "I'm Maab Queen of the damnd" or whoever they are or even "I'm an alien" I was an alien for a while, a grey.. Queen of the greys, alot of my alters are very narcissistic but I locked her up in a secret underground bunker because internally because she was getting on my nerves and I apparently was holding her hostage so Aliens would stop experimenting on me and others around the world lol. Greys live thousands of years, she's fine. So that was going on in my brain years and years ago.
As a child this is all seen as imagination. As an adult it's weird or crazy. Personally I'm glad I've kept my imagination and my dreams alive.
To me it sounds like you have too but you're frightened of them instead of embracing them.
