How do you guys do it?!

Postby sleepingwolf » Thu Feb 14, 2019 3:37 pm

Hello and happy 2019! :D :? :D

It's the first time we've made it onto the forum this year...sigh...

One of our goals for 2019 is to develop more of a relationship with the DID community and create something solid out here (and maybe a few friends? :) )

...but how do you do it?

We've recently changed routines, and been really busy, and having a few issues and ups and downs...and we've just not found the time... I'd want visiting the forum to be more of a 'core' practice, but at the moment we can only just about squeeze it in when things are more calm and relaxed...

How do you guys manage to be a part of the community so well?

Hi Lucy. Good question! I don't know about well but my general advice would be to show up on a fairly regular basis, once a week or more. Still, it's fine if you happen to not show up for a while, even years. Just jump back in. Make comments when a topic or an individual's story or a question moves you to action. If you're shy or unsure, make a few short comments to build up your confidence. Even one like "I appreciated reading your post" works. Ask a question, even if you're afraid it's silly or whatever.

As in life, it works best when you show up, as in be present. Then, the more you participate, the more value you're likely to create for yourself, and for others.

Happy 2019 to all of you as well! :)

I agree with what Johnny-Jack said. Sorry I'm not 100% sure what else to add to that. Just wanted to say I agree.....and wanted to wish you a happy 2019.

Thanks for the comments guys. Yea, it all makes sense really. Showing up... :D

I guess that is our 2019 goal, to try and show up more regular and consistently...

it's not something I consciously do.

I was so ######6 scared when I found out there were more me's inside. and I felt like I couldn't find any information on DID. just the same regurgitated #######4 over and over on every link.

by some miracle I found this forum and I read una+'s journey thread. and I lurked and finally made my first post. and the friends I have made here have just truly been amazing. i was so inspired to keep going and not give up. there is so much collective courage here it honestly makes me tear up. my friends here are warriors. even in our lows and tough times, we are ######6 survivors.

my real friends are here. nobody else understands anything about me or my life. i have a few IRL people who accept me. but they can never, ever understand me.

also because of the support I received. the knowledge and information and resources that were shared with me. the encouragement I received. it was all given and shared with such kindness and generosity that I want to pay that forward.

this community is like a port in the blinding storm for multiples looking for answers. looking for anyone on the entire planet who can share this experience with them. who can help with answers. who can direct them to resources.

so selfishly yeah I am here for me. my friends are here. i need this place.

secondly I am here for them. i can't solve or fix anything but I can be here and listen and believe in them.

and thirdly for the people I don't know. will never know or meet. and maybe somehow they can find this place and read these stories and find answers.

it reminds me of a passage from this Longfellow poem I really love:

"Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again."

We don't know. We kind of just ######6 stumbled on this site while doing research. DID is so ######6 hard for us to understand so we try to research sometimes in order to help us understand (along with seeing a therapist). This place has been a huge help for us. It can be nice to not feel so alone. I tend to give this place whenever I'm out same as some others in our system. It can be interesting to read their replies to things. Helps us learn more about each other.

Thanks for more replies guys, its great to hear your viewpoints. :D

I love that poem too, thank you so much for that!

I think there is a lot for us to think about and reflect on here. Yes, a place of being understood sounds very much appealing. I think we can juggle a few too many things I've I'm honest...

Thanks again guys!
