I completely get what you are saying. I am sure I have posted many times thoughts like yours.
If its any consolation, this was a long time ago and things have evolved. The bit I still struggle with is the 'it wasn't that bad, it can't account for the DID'. Not sure how to get over that but I am certain I have DID and am beginning to work on working with the others rather than denying them.
You also said you sometimes don't relate to some of the posts on here. I don't either a lot of the time. However, I concentrate on those that do chime with me. DID seems to be highly individual and it also depends, it seems, on where on their journey people are, how much therapy or work they have done on their understanding and so on.
You sound like you are grappling with it, which is all you can do really!

Thanks, Jolly jo. I really appreciate the support. Yes, I do struggle a lot with "it wasn't that bad," although of course the symptoms that I have now are evidence that it was. And also, because I only have amnesia for aspects of memories (like the emotions that ought to go with them), but have a fairly continuous timeline of my (our) life in my head, I start questioning the diagnosis.

I know it doesn't matter for treatment purposes whether there is amnesia or not (and I've told many people that very thing on this forum). And it's a good thing to not lose time in my daily life in any way that's disruptive. But I still head down that path sometimes.
