Alters and their dreams

Postby Muninn » Sun Oct 14, 2018 3:04 pm

We started writing a daily journal, but also a dream journal some month ago. I was quite sure, that we are connected unconsciously and therefore also share dreams, but today I did actually read all dreams we have noted down so far and it did struck me right away, that to about half of all dreams I have absolutely no emotional connection and memory.
Usually if I start reading notes about dreams, even if we had them years ago, there are some images popping up again from this dream or at least I remember that i did note that down, but not in this cases. They are like dreams of completely stranger people, even if some of them mention outer world people or places I also know.

Of course it could also be a memory issue. Dreams are very volatile and maybe I just forget them completely, but at the moment I tend to accept them as dreams of alters, with seem not to share much memory with me.

How do you experience dreaming?

Well.....before I found out about the others I had horrifying dreams every night for years. I think now though that maybe....just maybe....I misunderstood the "scary" people who were chasing me. I honestly think that maybe half of them only wanted to talk to me and I thought different in the dream. My point is that I believe my personalities could've been showing up for years, in my dreams, and I never realized it. I did keep a dream journal a while back in 2011, and a lot of those dreams seem interesting and point to the possibility of them showing up before in my dreams.

I do know that a lot of them I see or saw in my dreams before are in fact different personalities (Like Wolverine, Scar, Blaze, etc.) (Although there are also a lot of just dream "elements" too. The personalities have a "Special" feel about them that is really hard for me to explain......I just know it now when I see them. It feels to me like they are separate from the dream, whereas regular dream element "people" don't feel that way.)

I know all systems are different, but according to Weirdo (my one protector), the "dream world" is connected to the "inner world" somehow. I'm not 100% sure how, he tried to explain it to me, but it was way too confusing. He just said that is why I'm able to see them (my personalities) in my dreams. I also think that we can share dreams......(because I had some strange dreams that seemed that way) Like I'm pretty sure I saw what Bandit and David were dreaming the other day. That was kinda creepy.

We seem to go through cycles or periods of not remembering dreams, then remembering them but not understanding them. What dreams we do remember, less than half of them feel like 'my' dreams. Like, frequently I'm not in them; the 'characters' and locations and themes are all meaningless to me.

Previous host (who knew nothing of our DID) used to think it was super wierd, she said it was as if she was having someone else's dream by mistake. I assume they are dreams of some other part(s) and I'm just witnessing them.

On the rare occasion when I am in a dream or I feel like it's my dream, about half of those are nightmares. The rest mostly just wierd normal dream stuff.

On very rare occasions, we've had multiple parts share the same dream and it's been very nice to see and interact with each other in ways we can't do otherwise.

Past 3 nights have been different. 3 nights in a row I've remembered one dream each night, that I've been in, but they have been very disturbing.

*** trigger warning ***

One dream per night for three nights running, I've found myself the victim of some very over-the-top nastiness. Not even gonna go into the details, but excessive violence and degredation. I don't know why, but I'm assuming another part is either intentionally or subconsiously angry with me for some reason. It hasn't been like nightmares, I don't wake up scared. Though night before last I woke up with a shout when the violence got too much. It just feels like someone is doing terrible things to me but I'm not frightened by it, just enduring it till I wake.

*** end trigger warning ***

I dunno. Dreams are wierd. I think DID + dreams = super wierd.

Some of the dreams I remember, and I can usually tell who dreamed them based on content and "feel." But I have been told about other dreams that I had no memory of or emotional tie to.

It's all very interesting.
