I never thought about that till now, but as far as I can puzzle together from what I know so far, those which have their core identity in the inside world (some of them are not even human species) tend to see themselves at first glance.
Those who see their core identity more in the outer world, see the body. But still their inner-image and outer body do not match 100% in most cases (age/gender), which causes more body dysphoria if they are out, even if the discrepancy is smaller.

Not sure if this is on your point. Recently a young alter came out frightened. My T told her she was safe and an adult now. So she could help protect herself. To make the point he told her to look at her hands. Asked if they were the hands of a little girl or adult. He showed a picture of his wife with young grandchildren for comparison calling attention to their hands. The message I got from her was I had to call the doctor to "fix our hands". T & I laughed after he explained. But it seems at first she saw her young hands. But when her attention was called to them, they changed. Not sure what this means or if it's universal. Just happened last week.

Pixie and anyone else,

Please don't worry about differences in terminology. My mention of it was simply for context and not the main point of my post. My primary reason for posting was to point out that in some systems, including ours, a more prominent member can have issues with the body, while less prominent members feel okay about it.

I hope that I haven't caused a problem by bringing up this point. As I see it, the issue that we share here (body image) transcends any differences in how often we're out.

Val and I accept that the outside does not match the inside self-image. I look very much like the body anyway, and Val is very calculating and logical. The others avoid mirrors because they like to focus on their mental self-image and do their best to ignore the actual outside appearance. The only time Britney will voluntarily look in a mirror is I'd she is putting on make-up.

Windsoar, it's funny you mention the hands. I tried showing AJ and Raina how they cohabitate the body by showing them the wedding ring on their hand. AJ: "I like jewelry, so what!" Rania: (quickly tries to take it off and gives it to me)

Lou is upset that the shoes she likes don't fit. She wants shes with pretty pink bows. We are working on modifying some shoes to fit the bill. It hit's AJ the hardest walking through the kids section and seeing cute shirts for Lou that won't fit the body. :(

Otherwise, few have openly complained about differences. Alana even mentioned there being a lot to like about having a body, other than that she can't levitate on the outside. :?

Nope. No problems at all. Something we've figured out like almost ASAP was like how totally diff like every one of us are, locally/internally (us)... and like every single system and case... seems so crazy that like we're all sooooo similar in some ways, yet like totally not at all in other ways. :)

We do that to Zor like all the time. I see a girl going by in a cute outfit, or part of it is cute... or I see it on the rack at the store, I'm like "oooh, buy me that!" lol Or like "wow, that's like super cute, we'd totally look adorbs in that!"... lol

I get the diff between inside and out- not like cuz I can fly inside (I sooooo wish, that would be like so awesome). But like for us, the inner world is super detailed and huge, like a video game world compared to the real world but better... but it's still not as rich, defined, detailed, or as random (that's the big thing- ppl are like so random and erratic and that's like super hard to get used to when you're inside mostly, and it's also one of the most like fascinating thing outside imho).
