Training of inner communication

Postby Muninn » Wed Aug 29, 2018 7:14 am

Hi!

We feel and see the need to learn how to communicate in our headspace. Some of us can hear voices of some others, and there is some sort of subconscious information sharing happening, but it is quite unreliable. The asynchronous conversation in our journal is sometimes difficult too, because of the time offset and not everyone participating.

Unfortunately the last time someone tried to actively contact another it ended in a disaster with blackout and traumatic backflash (he just tried to open every "door" in our mind he found and seems that he got a very bad one, or that our mind does not like opening doors at all)

So we are looking for hopefully safer methods, how to achieve a more reliable inner communication between at least the more active parts who try to manage our life ;)

Maybe some of you could share some ideas how we could approach this goal and what are exercises we could use? We of course would only try it in a safe space, in case it goes wrong again, but it would help to have some ideas.

We hesitate to make any suggestions but will share what we have done. In therapy we created a safe space, our castle where all can feel welcome which includes a circular meeting place. Whatever visualization works for you as there are an infinite variety available . Ours changes as needs be.

You mention a journal, something we have found invaluable, both as a record of events and as a tool for inner communication.

Every night we meet in the dining room, over time we're becoming far more aware of what upsets each other

The best thing to do is pratice, there's no magic solution for this (or anything really) practice makes perfect!

We think group meetings should be for communication, learning and catch ups not neccesarily for opening memories and stuff like that without a T present but that's just our opinion

With the help of my therapist, we created a room where we can all meet. My goal is to have at least one meeting a week for at least half an hour (I'm new to this type of therapy lol) and it helps my parts. Sometimes we talk about issues going on, but T recommended that we try to also talk about less triggering topics, i.e. "What are things that bring you joy?" or even "Does anyone have any requests for the grocery store?"
Having a therapist guiding me to create this space helped me so much. She says some of her clients can picture a place, but some have to google ideas (a.k.a. "conference room" or "library" or "porch").

Thanks for your suggestions :)

Fun thing is, that one of my others suggested exactly this idea in our journal, but I read it after writing my initial post here.

We will start to try this out on a regular base. I don't expect it to work instantly with everyone in harmony together, but if our brain is capable of creating different personalities it should be possible to imagine one common place for all. Especially because I am actually making a living by creating virtual places
