Medical Alert/ID Bracelet

Postby BeccaBee » Sat Jul 21, 2018 1:42 am

what do you guys think of medical ID jewelry or wallet info cards?

I ordered one for PTSD/Panic but I felt really conflicted about it. I don't understand why part of me feels like we need this so badly. I think it's in case I have to stand my ground at work??? I'm not sure.

part of me thinks it's stupid. and part of me ######6 hates cops and hopes this keeps cops off me. and I also have that super rare toxic reaction to serotenegic drugs. idk.

the one I got is nice and discrete. the engraving is inside so only medics would see it. it says

C-PTSD / PANIC / DID
NO TRIPTANS OR
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
TRAUMA / TBI

honestly I don't know what's going on. but usually when inside is pushing so hard I just give in and get it.

anyway - just curious if anyone else has some sort of emergency info thing on their person? or if you guys think they are dumb or useful since I'm feeling both ways and don't understand either.

I don't even like wearing bracelets.

That's never occured to us, but some of us do seem to think it's a neat idea.

Reminds me that our previous host had a medicalert bracelet like 20 years ago or so but no idea why, or what she had written on it? Maybe asthma or something...

Anyways we think its a neat idea, and good for the drug allergy stuff.

We have an app for medical information from our lock screen. It says about meds tead I have and intolerances and can even call my emergency contact from the lock screaming. I think it's a good idea you never know what might happen and if police or medical personnel trying to help you make things worse it could get very bad.

I think that if someone in your system is pushing so hard for this, then it's a good idea to get it. Working together is all about cooperation and recognizing the needs/wants of the others. And someone obviously feels very strongly about needing this. So, if this will make them feel safe, then that alone makes it worth it and a good idea!!!!

we have a note that say whom to call and who not to call in case of an emergency. worst nightmare, that they call family and they show up when we are already helpless. *shivering

we want to get a dissociation note too. just because it can sometimes look a little crazy and we dont want to be locked up for that.

When you say "note," is it a note you wrote that you keep in your wallet? A paper from the dr.? Something else?

ok. so I'm not the only one with an emergency plan.

good deal.

yes - inside NEEDED it. so I just splurged on a very nice, very discrete one. medics will see it but it should be pretty incognito day to day. an elegant solution - I hope.

its a little card we wrote that is attached to our ID and health insurance information that we keep in our wallet. it has contact to a doc on it in case of questions about the dx. if something happens and they look for ID they can find it.

During my DID crisis I was concerned about fugue states, and did research "medical jewelry", both the passive kind with just info and/or a phone number to call, and the kind that are electronic trackers. I ended up not getting any of these things but I did put a note with my driver license. And for several years I went nowhere without telling my husband I was heading out, where I was going, when I would be back. I also wrote the same details on paper in our home.

Maybe the younger generation can rely on cell phones but for those of us who grew up without them, in a fugue state we are likely to abandon a cell phone.

The DID Forum has other threads about this, especially around the topic of fugue states.

This is something I've never even thought about- an emergency plan… it's a great idea!
