Physical fitness for recovery

Is being physically fit important to you?

We find that fitness keeps us in tune with our body and surroundings, but also helps us to trust our body to get through each day. When I'm not around, how can I trust my others to get by day to day? Well we're all fit and athletic. When we take care of our body by eating right and exercising properly, we know that nothing can get in our way. Not only that, but being a good fighter and training to achieve instinctive self defence means that we'll always be safe. And we'll always be safe from the ones who hurt us before. No matter who is at the front, we can all survive!

But not just all that, it helps with flashbacks! When we get physically distressed from our memories, both explicit and/or implicit, we can match our physical feelings of pain, breathlessness and emotional arousal by banging out some reps on the dumbbells or doing pressups or running, but even better is fighting. The fight for survival never ended when the actual ab*se took place, because we dissociated. So the fight still goes on when we get flashbacks. So fight now and you will win that fight from decades ago! Does that make sense?
It's all going to be ok.

If we didn't work out(even though we don't do much) our stress would be overwhelming. My therapist was always talking about how important working out is to maintaining good mental health.

so yes it is important to us and what you say does make sense. Well said.
