Alt names

Postby WTFDIDIDO » Mon Feb 19, 2018 6:24 am

Ok the only name I had for the last little while (as far as I can recall) is "I" and for obvious reason it has confused us a lot as I is I but also I (if you get the idea)

Anyway earlier today the name Erik popped into my head out of the blue and I saw a figure. Then within a matter of seconds I was unable to see the figure and it was as someone else was pulling him away and blocking my entire train of thoughts (hard to explain)

Trying to piece this together. Does it mean 1 Alt is Erik and another Alt doesnt want me to know about him. (I don't know who me is I don't have a name but I know I is also copresent right now)

I don't think there's a way to know for sure but your impression may well be correct. Ask inside as neutrally and supportively as possible and you may get more information. It helps if you're welcoming.

Sometimes littles will take a name after a while, even if they go by "Me" or such at first. Sometimes that is their name. Several (most?) of ours didn't have a name when they arrived, or, if asked, it was the body's name John (which is taken).

It seems they wake up and, while getting ready for a visit, they receive our general "house rules" that says everybody needs a unique name. Part of a "welcome package" or something. Others are "never look in a mirror" and "John has a son." But not everyone has gotten that, some wake up suddenly and are completely lost.

A name popping into my head or sort of drifting toward me happens to be our most common first indication we're about to meet someone new. The time when a name is drifting around is also when we can mishear it for something else or hear a bunch of similar sounding words. So we misheard Dan as Dack, and before Brody I heard names like Rudy, Bart, Dobby.

We've had some names which we've felt special about or drawn to, something like that, and this usually does turn out to be an alter's name. We felt a significance about the name Seamus a couple months before we met him. We kept writing down Bartholomew in the "maybe?" section on our list of alters a couple years before he actually fronted. We've also written down a description of traits that seemed like they could belong to an unmet alter, like how we sometimes gorge on food as if we're starving and someone is about to take the food away.

We've also had names come into the mind which I can misidentify as belonging to some unmet alter. On a couple occasions Sphinx has said that a particular name is just a name in my head space. He's telling me now that he didn't get any reaction (reverberation?) in the mind for that name. In other words, it was just a name I thought of myself.
Dx = DID. My blog. My personal Periodic Table of 78 alters.

Thanks for the reply some interesting stuff to digest I am so confused because to this day I cannot separate who is who so it would be nice to have names but it seems like for whatever reason at least 1 part of me (maybe I) does not want us to connect with each other by names. So really I never know who I am communicating with and if alt 1 is also alt 2 (very poorly explained but I'll give an example- is the part of me that is a sports fanatic the same part of me that loves pot- I legit have no idea sometimes. it's all so confusing like who am I right now typing this lol
