I have a condition called intracranial hypertension that causes really bad headaches among other symptoms. Last summer I had a stent placed in my brain to treat it and it has worked for about 15 months, but now my headaches are back and they are horrible. TOday I'm having the worst one I have had since before my surgery. I have a CT scan next week to see if the stent has failed and if it has...if i need another brain surgery. :(

That's excellent!

The side effects of your new meds sound really unpleasant, it's good that the side effects are diminishing a bit. Hopefully that continues. Good luck with it working for the future and helping you to get an answer as to what is going on for you.

Wishing you all the best. That sounds like a stressful situation to be worrying about.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

thanks. it's in my left transverse sinus. which is basically a big vein that runs down the back of the brain.

BeccaBee, did your headaches get resolved? By the meds or the piercing?

We've been having a lot of headaches lately, or maybe just one that's been continuous for the past 8 or 10 days. Or maybe more, memory issues lol. But it's been ongoing for many days now and it's either 4 or 5 multi-hour headaches every day, or just one continuous headache that sometimes gets worse and sometimes isn't as bad.

It's not bad enough to stop us from functioning, but I'm worried it might get worse. And it does get enough several times a day that we're taking OTC meds (ibuprofen).

FWIW we did get a CT scan back in February to check for any physical reason for the headaches, and that came up clean.

p.s. apologies if necroposting is frowned on here, I was searching on threads re. headaches and this came up.

no. but the situation has improved. my headaches are usually well controlled by diet - and that's part of the problem.

the topamax did help to sort of break the cycle I was in but it was a no go for long term use. turned me into a total asshole. I yelled at my kid. Didnt like it at all.

I do recommend the daith however. it's a gnarly #####& of a piercing and a bitch to heal but it has definately helped my chronic headaches.

I think there are just a good gauge of my general well being. if I eat right and sleep and manage stress they are much better. I really let self care slide this last year with all the work stress.

I'm hoping to get back on track this year. preservatives are a HUGE headache trigger for me.

I am guessing that necroposting means bring in back old threads? actually I think it's encouraged because it can help keep the threads alive longer so it helps more people because they can read more responses. but all in all my experience of this forum is that nobody really minds if you bring back an old post. I sort of messe up and had multiple headache posts.

Johnny jack said we have lots and lots of posts about headaches. I wonder if headaches and amnesia are correlated.

now when I have a bad headache I take
100mg dicoflenac
1 classic red Sudafed
10mg proplanalol
50 mg topiramate
bit of caffeine

headaches suck. sorry you are having them. mine have been worse the last few weeks, too.

Thanks for the info! Glad to hear the headaches have improved for you.

I just looked into the daith piercing (pics etc) but it looks a little too intense for us lol. Which is funny cos we've had a lot of piercings lately, that other folks think are intense. But that one gives us the heebie jeebies lol. Maybe if things get worse we'll rethink it.

Did you just do one ear, or both? If it's just one, is there a preference?

We haven't got to the point of asking for any precriptions yet. When we talked to the doc she had the CT scan done, but that was it. So we're just getting by with 200mg ibuprofen, usually 3 or 4 times a day. It's probably ineffective though, I'm sure we're so used to it by now it's probably not doing much.

Thanks again BeccaBee!

p.s. yeah 'necroposting' is bringing a 'dead' thread back to life months later... we've been on other forums that frown on it, but we didn't see anything in the rules here against it.

I usually look for an old thread before I start a new topic.

headaches suck. I could gobble ibuprofen 1000mg at a time. I know that's bad for you but ######6 headaches.

the general consensus on daith piercings is to pierce the side with the pain. as in most migraines are hemispherical, so sufferers tend to have a pain side. mine is the right. if you don't have relief with one side some people do both. I for sure would not recommend piercing both at the same time. you will want to baby that ear for at least 6 months. doing both would be a ######6 nightmare.

I just hate how you can't get ######6 drugs anymore for pain because of damn addicts. I threw out my back and got not $#%^ for it. if I were to get a bad migraine I would have to go in for a shot. it's #######4. but nevermind me and my libertarian anarchism. that's off topic.

prednisone. motherucker gave me prednisone.

Thanks BeccaBee!

Our headaches can happen all over the place. The one that's been going on for a few days though is mainly on the left... but we also get like sharp brief icepick style headaches on both left and right. They're over so fast though it's never been worth taking anything, unless we get them in a big cluster.

The teen was looking at our ears last night to figure out which bit was the daith and if it'd be doable and how to do aftercare etc, and got distracted and ended up stretching our lobes another gauge. She gets a bit squeamish about some piercings, but I kinda like it. There's other things I want to get pierced too but she really doesn't want done lol.

Good point about the eyes... we wear reading glasses but they're just like, cheapo off-the-shelf stuff. Our eyes are pretty good for distance, but up close they're not great any more. :(

The trouble with headaches (and dizziness) is there's so many possible causes. Like, we used to supplement with magnesium, but stopped because it was expensive, but had to re-start because we were getting a lot of muscle cramps, which was why we started it in the first place. So maybe the headache has been because we were off magnesium a while, and we only just re-started a few days ago and maybe it hasn't kicked in yet.

Or maybe it's from dieting & intermittent fasting, could easily be electrolytes imbalanced, and that could also be magnesium, or could be insufficient sodium.

Or maybe it's stress.. or maybe it's another part inside who's stressed. Or upset. Or angry. Or whatever. So many possible causes and it's really hard to pick through and figure out what's what.

Especially when we can't remember when it started, and can't remember other events, so it's not like we could point to a day and say "it started then, and this also happened, so maybe they're related."
