migraine (and other chronic headache conditions welcome)

Postby BeccaBee » Thu Dec 21, 2017 11:26 pm

anybody else get migraines? I did a search and saw a lot of mentions but not a dedicated thread/topic.

mine were well controlled by diet until about a year ago when I accidentally whomped my noggin a couple times. now im getting these headaches that are migraine like, but instead of the full blown "I just wanna die". it's like a low to mid-grade migraine that lasts 3-5 days. I finally had my appointment at the specialist today. (and y'all know how I am hating the doctors so you know it's bad when I'm like ' ###$ it! I'm making an appointment with a specialist') i was prescribed diclofenac for rescue and topomax for prevention. i like diclofenac so im not worried, but wonder if it will be even close to stronge enough. however, having never tried an anti-convulsant, I'm a bit more nervous about this daily topamax for prevention. I looked it up and read some reviews and think I will give it a try. another thing I've been on the fence about is a daith piercing. i think i might give it a try to. headaches have become disabling at this point. so, gotta fight it now. and when I fight. lock, stock, and barrel. mama ain't playing.

We (previous host at least) used to get migraines. Then for a while, icepick or cluster headaches. We even had an MRI trying to figure that out, but no cause was found. Then that eventually subsided.

We've been getting headaches again since I took over... not migraines though. Regular headaches, 3 or 4 a day seems to be the average.

Hopefully the meds will help you stop the migraines.

Butterburr, feverfew and magnesium. Read on U of California alternative medicine website.
Had awful migraines-affected quality of life big time. Decided I’d had it , did research ... it worked.

All the best with trying the medication for the migraines. I hope it helps.

In relation to the daith piercing... Have you ever had a piercing of any part of ear cartilage before? I have had cartilage piercing and didn't really think it through much beforehand and didn't realise the risk of getting a keloid scar. If you've had a cartilage piercing before and aren't prone to keloid scars, then you can probably just decide on the merits of whether you like the look and think it will help your migraines or not. But if you haven't had a cartilage piercing before, you might want to consider the risk of keloid scarring and how that might affect you, particularly if it were to happen in that area. Also, cartilage doesn't grow back, so once you've got a hole there it will stay forever even if you take the earring out. The skin can regrow across but once cartilage is gone it stays gone.

yeah I had a helix in the 90s. it got annoying after a few years.

I am a little nervous about it though. I mean it's a difficult pierce, so you need somebody good! and just the risk of infection and the length of time I'll have to really baby it while it heals.

thanks for bringing it to my attention. I scar really well, but know folks with keloids.....

and then you know we aren't supposed to make permanent changes to the body. but we do. we just got our toenail done last year. I mean it's nnot the same but it kind of is.

I am ready to give it a try but it give me a bit of the heebie newbies. but topamax scares me even more.

Yeah, definitely get someone good if you end up going through with it. And look after it well so it doesn't get infected. It's good that you know you scar well, it's much less of a risk if you've already had one piercing go well...

Hehe, we do that too! But I'm not allowed to get any more piercings now after the last one. Otherwise I'd be covered in them, probably scarring badly and I think the others wouldn't be happy.

oooo that sounds cool. I want one of those now too!

I don't know much about topamax. What are your biggest worries about it?

I went through with it and sweet mother of God that is a painful spot to pierce. every time I clean it it hurts so bad I want to barf. it's doing well. but hurts and is awkward to clean.

the topamax is an anti convulsant with horrible side effects. and I just want to limit this kind of $#%^. I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure how bad they would be.....but out of the huge array of suck to choose from most people report mental foginess, confusion, and trouble finding words to speak. I don't think that's some good $#%^ for me being as I'm already half out of it. it's nickname is "dopamax" because most people have trouble functioning on it. I may try a test dose over my new year weekend.

to clear up the toenail. I mean we had a permanent body modification when we went to the podiatrist and got our ingrown toenail cut out. then he put some acid to burn out the nail bed.

HI BeccaBee I hope it work. i also find the magnesium works. But most of my headaches come from tension. even when I dont 'feel tight" I am apparently very tight. a regular rub of A535 or Bengay helps!
keep ya head up, Don't let up, keep slayin em

not sure what the point was.

That's cool you got the piercing. Hopefully it keeps healing well. Let us know if it helps your migraines, that will be really interesting to hear...

The topamax side effects sound pretty sucky. Did you end up trying a test dose?

yeah, I noticed an immediate decrease in the severity of my symptoms with the piercing.

I tired the qudexy xr 50mg (topiramate) over new years weekend. have had bearable side effects. a little word confusion. big feeling tongue. tingling fingers. taste perversion. this is maybe my 4th or 5th day..... side effects are diminishing and I am almost headache free.

this stuff makes me feel weird. I kinda like it and kinda don't. we'll see.
I'm on a really low dose and can come off whenever. I want to stay on, in case docs "inflamed brain" theory works out. I'd love to get this chronic heads he thing wrapped up and behind me again.

inflamed in the membrane....inflamed in the brain.

it makes me a little restless.....which is cool because I can be a slothful lazy ###$. but not cool cuz I can get agitated. It's all about channeling into positive behaviors I think.
