Last straw.

Postby PinkyDobieMom » Thu Dec 21, 2017 7:39 pm

I'm furious. My 1984 truck caught fire yesterday 48 miles from home. Had to cancel my new Dr psych appt and they say because I didn't foresee this...48 hours BEFORE my appt...I owe $255 no show fee even though I called immediately from the interstate to let them know what happened. I called 3 times and left messages and they never called me back so I called this morning and they don't seem to give a rats behind. It took me 4 1/2 years to get the courage to go back to a Dr!!! Forget it. I won't try again.

It's fairly standard policy to charge for missed sessions. They still had to have the time available to see you even if you don't come, therefore they miss out on income if you don't come because they couldn't use that time to see someone else. It's kind of like if you went to work and your boss didn't give you anything to do, you would still want to be paid for your time otherwise you couldn't afford to work there any more. Essentially you are paying for them to be available, even if you aren't there.

Obviously you can't foresee that your truck was going to catch on fire though. Did the fire department attend? You might be able to ask if they can write you a letter of explanation to see if Dr has a policy in exceptional circumstances to drop the charge. I don't imagine the Dr would drop the charge without any kind of written proof though or else everyone who simply felt like not attending would just say something dramatically unexpected happened.

Police, fire, passerbys. About 35 folks showed up because of the fire. I have a copy of police report and from towing Company also. They will take the letters. And my company is putting in a new/ used engine in my truck...I will send all these things in and see. Right now that's the least of my worries. Just got my latest labs back and have a brain aneurysm so nothing matters any longer.

That's good that you've got copies of the police reports and stuff. Good luck submitting copies to the Dr so that maybe they will be lenient and not make you pay for the missed session.

I'm sorry to hear about the brain aneurysm. Can they treat the location that it's in?

Just try to take things one step at a time. You have gotten this far. Small steps go a long way....
