Question about a Conference

Anybody been to this conference before?

Whoa - had no idea.

There is another post around here - search Seattle - but the one I posted was a more academic conference. This actually looks really clue though I am not sure I am ready for that......Imagine 100 attendees actually means at least 200-3000 people!!!

Usually "attendees" is convention speak for everyone, not just presenters.

I know I meant that if there are 100 "attendees" there with DID , then if each one has at least 1 other part and maybe more than 30 there would be 200-3000 people/parts! I know that doesn't change the number of bodies but I think it would change the feel of the room......

so, did you make it in the DID world when you have actually heard about more than 3 of the listed speakers?

we dont like conferences. there is crazy $#%^ going on there. our T says that abusers go there to identify MC-survivors and abuse them some more. we wouldnt trust a single person we meet there.

Heh. SamsLand, I totally missed the joke.

The thing is, no one enjoys getting into a revolving door crisis, much less doing it in public. So I would not expect a lot of switching to be going on. Public best behavior and all.

In medicine, the concept of the patient's health care team explicitly including the patient (imagine that!) has now evolved into developing some able patients into ambassadors. These patients attend conferences, get awareness level training on the most relevant technical information, and are developed as community ambassadors. Their role is to help to develop clinical research that will be attractive to research participants, and then help to recruit participants. This is driven more by the medical community than by patients.

On their own, patient affinity groups have evolved more and more into awareness and anti-stigma campaigns. That seems to be the focus of this conference.

I am planning on going to this conference. I have spoken to Jamie, the one who started this organization. Jamie is a therapist who was Dx with DID and found little to no help for DID so she started an organization that was created for others who also found little to no help in their search for healing in DID. Many of the speakers have DID and I am very impressed that they are willing to open up to help others understand DID and help family members such as I with love ones with DID. I live in Florida so it is super convenient for me.

I also have been to the International Society of of Dissociation and Trauma National Conference in DC early this year. For me that was a disaster, I truly expected a lot more professionalism then what was displayed. The top Dr's in the world were there, but man were they assholes, sorry no other way to put it...................

I envision this conference to be more knowledgeable and contact/support building. It seems to be more geared towards support building for those with DID and family members along with therapist who work with DID clients.

It also seems to allow people to "think outside the box" the other conference since the forefathers are there they are very threatened by upcoming therapists and ideas. This conference talks about therapy dogs and other approaches rather than just old school...........

As of now, my husband and I plan to go. He was excited that there would be support for supporters.

I've looked over the speakers and I have a good feeling about it.

Try not to allow undermining and manipulator therapist just as much risk as any where else. I heard it is a great conference there are folks on facebook willing to sponsor you and room share for hotel cost affordability. .
