Early after discovering I had DID, Jack was out walking around our neighborhood. Since he wouldn't tell us all the details of what happened, why he came to be, I thought while inside but co-conscious I would try probing his memory for more info.

At first he resisted and blew up in anger. His words were something like, trust me, you do not want to "switch places" with me. But I kept pushing and pushing and suddenly I had a flash from him of past emotional and physical chaos that I was not at all ready for. At that moment I went from pushing toward the knowledge to pushing it furiously away.

Eventually, as I was able to absorb it, I learned more and more. And over time the basics of his traumas no longer overwhelmed me. We now hold it as "just what happened" back then.

I recalled this when re-reading from a couple of us on this thread that they wouldn't want to "switch places" with the alters who experienced the worst trauma. But it occurred to me, and I will add a

here just in case, that actually, we already did switch places with them, we just forgot.
