i had to call my bank to authorize a large payment. called customer service number and it is automated, of course. it said "enter the last four digits of your ATM card or the phone access PIN you previously set up". i hadn't set a separate PIN, so i went to enter my card numbers (i'm making these up for internet purposes obviously): 1254. but my hand typed in 6473. i couldn't figure out why, so i cleared it and tried again, this time LOOKING at my card: 1254.
again, my hand typed 6473. what the heck.
i hung up the phone. stared at the numbers. 1254. called back. rehearsed the number in my head, went to type it in: 6473. WHYYYYYYYY?!
i was about to hang up when it connected and said "hello vortex void, your account is blah blahblah"... it worked!?
i couldn't figure out why. i didn't even know what that second number was, much less wanted to type it. i finally realized it is part of my social security number, and that "I" had set it up as a phone PIN. except "I" didn't. SOMEONE did.
it was the weirdest feeling. like two people trying to steer a car in opposite directions. i kept thinking "i'm trying to type the right number!" and my hand kept moving as if someone in there was like "this IS the right number, you just don't know it!"
what on earth is this? is it because i'm paying more attention now? i feel like maybe in the past i would've just entered a number but not even realized what it was. i don't know, i can't remember anything.
this is so weird, but it almost made me glad because having these experiences makes it easier to believe this is all really happening.
