Alters based on fictional characters?

Postby Angel on the Balcony » Wed May 27, 2015 5:54 am

Hi

Is it possible to have an alter based on a TV character that you will have watched since a child and still do as an adult?

Why wouldn't it be possible? It's very very possible to have alters that are based on people or characters that have made an impact on your life. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible, mate.
We will be okay someday. Let's work towards that day.

Totally possible! Those types of alters can be called "fictives" or "introjects" and from my experience they're pretty common and they dont always have to be from something you've watched since you were child either, just something that's made a big impact on you. To use myself as an example, I was really into the tv show Supernatural for a while, and the character Dean was just so strong and brave and cool, at some point during the time I was into the show I split and I guess my mind latched on to the idea of "Dean Winchester could make it through this situation!" and suddenly...I had an alter based off of Dean. He doesnt front very often, but he's here, even though I have since stopped watching the show. I also have a friend who has a fictive of Ariel from The Little Mermaid!

I have an alter who's named after "Robin" from the old "Batman" TV show from the '60's. I loved that show as a kid! I don't know to what extent she's truly based on that character, but there was obviously something there I liked and wanted to emulate.

I'm actually surprised I don't have more alters who have elements taken from TV shows and movies, since I was so into those as a kid.

I do a lot of fiction writing, and I have different alters who are in charge of giving authentic voices to various characters. So in a way, I have characters based on my alters. In Robin's case, I suppose I have fictional characters based on an alter based on a fictional character.
I have dissociative idendity disorder.

Dramatis personae:
Adults -- Melissa (waking personality), Peter, Rob, Nothing Woman
Teenager -- Jennifer
Children -- Abby, Robin
And a cast of thousands! ;)

Yup, situation normal. This is a frequently asked question and similar observations were common in technical books about DID way back in the 1980's.

Yes, I have a number of prominent folk, artist, actors, actress. I immediately backed out of that sentence when HiddenHikari said int*oj*ect, because you won't make mine that in my system! In fact, I have identify those already. Based off this character is correct doesn't mean I use they name unless in session and they haven't requested a name change. Some I decided to change name because I just wasn't comfortable telling my therapist I hear this artist etc. Mainly, because I didn't know it was possible. I know understand dissociative identity disorder, we are susceptible to anybodies identity given the right circumstances for them to be there. Some have insisted to keep there own name. Its not even about that its about what memories they protecting how your life them and what is the story that reminds you of some portion your story, yea like the impact. Real wrap though some I'm really scared to hear because I just don't get it like the prez of the united states, he hasn't fronted yet I hope he don't it literally scares me!

Reason for asking was, one of my alters is obviously based on Doctor Who. It's a show I've watched since I was about five when Jon Pertwee was The Doctor. It's a show I've always watched, and still do. Of course over time, there's been different Doctors. So my Doctor is made up from bits of all 12 of them, but mostly the earlier ones. It's like having one alter made up of twelve.

Sounds so similar to Harriot. She's been into writing since she was really young. I think it was another coping mechanism, like an escape, and we're all into it to some extent because it's her job. I just lent her my voice for a novel she wrote recently.
Are you thinking of publishing, or is it just like a hobby?
