Denial

Postby Violarules » Mon Sep 08, 2014 2:12 am

Our host is in denial again. I don't know what triggered it but she doesn't believe we are real and is trying to block us. It's making us very switchy right now and I'm not sure what to do. Help.

Keep speaking to her. The denial is sort of an automatic part of DID, not entirely a free choice by a host. I can tell you what my alters have done sometimes. Talk loudly inside, yell if you have to. "Hey, Johnny boy, let's admit we're a bunch of people and keep moving" Or "oh my god, how many times do we have to deal with this, hello, bozo, are you joking?" "If we're not real, you, mister, are insane, because you've been talking with us for months. Take your pick!"

The light shaming me and making me feel like an idiot worked much better than threats or chastising. But they had to resort to that a few times too. "You know we can make you live absolutely miserable, right?"

Sometimes a little would take over the body or come near the front and start crying because I didn't believe in them. This always stopped me in my tracks -- immediately.

Not sure if this will help, have her try some grounding and calming exercises, for me my worst denial is when I'm the fuzziest and foggiest.

what kind of grounding exercises? Also, that you for mentioning the fuzzy and foggy part because I just realized that Viola felt that way when she was watching someone play horror videos games on YouTube earlier.

Meditation and yoga are good to calm and ground yourself. They might help you guys from switching so much. If you can try to get someone in charge (if you don't have one already) and have them front or pick someone to front most of the time until you can get your host to relax and accept you again.

One thing that my alters will do to me if I am having a really really bad panic attack is they will drag me inside and i guess you could say sedate me. I don't know how they do it, but all I know is I end up waking up in my room a few hours later completly dazed with a foggy memory of what happened. The memory will normally right itself within a couple hours. If she is freaking out that badly and talking to or calming her dosent work I would suggest something like that.

Good luck and I hope you guys figure it out soon.

Hi all. Sorry about that little denial trip I was on. I was being triggered by something I was watching which made me go into denial. I'll try to be more careful with that.

She was watching a guy on Youtube commentate on a horror game and some of the elements reminded her of the terrifying night time hallucinations she used to have, triggering her. We're fine now though. Thanks for all of the advice though.

Re: Denial

I was just sharing my own experiences with denial in another post. I go through that every now and then.
I used to host, but I'm not the host like I used to be. I suppose you could call me a co-host, but I really don't front as much as I used to.

Sometimes I panic, or find myself in a crisis, or questioning what everything is.
I'm glad you were able to work through it! I wish I had some good advice.
I have a very good support system (Not just my alters, but really good friends who snap me out of it).
Reaching out like this when you're in denial is a good idea I think. Next time I'm having a crisis of my own I think I'll try the same thing. Just know that you are certainly real, and the others are real, and there's nothing wrong with that and there's no shame in that. Embrace it! :3
