Rapid Switching and Muteness

Postby am4kds » Wed Aug 13, 2014 12:05 am

In today's therapy session I experienced a lot of rapid switching. It was a round robin thing with Justice wanting to pop out every time the T caught my eye, as soon as Justice would pop out then Melissa, my other protector would pop out and then I could come back out (all of this in a matter of seconds). This went on throughout the session. My T did several grounding exercises trying to keep one of us out for some period of time. The thing is every time these switches would happen I would go mute for a couple of minutes (it seemed like forever at the time). It seems so surreal, I was wondering if anyone else has ever experienced something similar.

Yes I have when my mom is yelling and swearing at me. I find myself unable to speak and I feel lightheaded as well and unfocused from the stress and switching since I'm trying to keep my protector from coming out and saying something that will escalate my mom's anger even further.
I have ADHD. Possibly have another mental disorder but am not certain.

I'm not so sure about the muteness, but we've had a few times when we've rapidly switched. Usually they happen after a severe trigger and several people want to help Host. She gets dizzy, lightheaded, and gets a headache from this. She does experience the muteness if one of the others, I don't know her name but I know it's a girl, is switching with them because she is mute.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through such a difficult time! My heart goes out to you, all of you.

To understand what was happening, it might help if you each wrote a narrative of your experience to see what it was like from the inside, if everyone experienced the muteness the same way. This has helped me to understand some things recently. Your issue could have been due to resistance at the gates, so to speak, or maybe one of you was a source of muteness for the others, etc.

Sounds like you are doing hard work these days. I'm sure it will lead to good things for you.
