Alters coming out and being reconized

Postby mow59 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 5:19 pm

Hello,
this idea came to me by reading another post.. was about people recognizing an alter when they are out. what about this idea to help out yourself and friends.
If you have someone that you know and trust and you switch around them, but it is difficult for them and annoying for you ,for them to recognize them and annoying for the alter because they aren't recognized. Sit around and set up a specific known signal,, heh its me type thing,,, a one or two finger in the air,, brush of the nose or chin,,,, this will help you friend to reconize whos out and after a while it may not even be needed.....just an idea

NicS and I have done that. We used sign language so we could avoid the stupid issue of having to announce "I'm Hansel" which is really unnatural for anyone to have to say to someone you know. Maybe some twins or triplets (non multiples) need to do that? One of his alters used to be mute so that might be why we started with. But initial letters run out with currently 63 of us and signing something is only marginally better than saying your own name.

Everyone in our two systems just wish to be known but sometimes clarify so they're not assumed to be someone they're, which is even more annoying or disheartening. I think the fewer alters you have the easier it may be distinguishing them, just a guess.

I think it mainly depends on the system and how obvious the physical changes are. Some alters in our system have really subtle changes that even we can't see. Others have very obvious changes. Fewer alters do of course make it a little bit easier, but maybe not in some systems.

That is a good idea, though, using some sort of small signal to help other people figure it out without having to ask.

we had more the opposite, alters pretending to be me for instance so I had to make sure the friends I knew they d fool
some clues.
As I knew they don t know my age and I know if asked for a name they ll get uncomfortable and give themselves a way.

As for recgonisin an alter - in our system we kinda let it go when we switch and it s not noticed - when the alter in question can t be bothered

at other times there s just an awkward moment as the alter popping up at times has no clue where he or she ended up with who and in what situation. In that case being open and blunt cannot be avoided.

but if such little things can work for others sure

I know some of us let themseleves been known by their use of language or how they call the friend we have (nickname) for instance.

Or they mention a hobby that s really speficic or such

Sadly, there is no way for anyone in the outside world to tell us apart unless we write our thoughts down on paper, in spite of the fact that we're near polar opposites. I guess it's because we're apparently permanently co-conscious so no one ever gets the chance to see how we act individually. Still, I always figured that at least our voice would change depending on which of us spoke, but no. It's annoying as hell.
