A paranoid alter?

Postby Machiavello » Wed Jun 18, 2014 6:49 pm

Is it possible to exist a paranoid alter?

An alter that thinks everyone is going to hurt you, an alter that thinks everybody is dangerous, an alter that thinks you won't be believed because It is written in your words you won't, an alter that is afraid of everybody, an alter that acts unorganized....

Thanks.

Welcome to the forums!

It is very possible for there to be a paranoid alter in a system. Have you tried talking to them, reassuring them that they are safe?

One of my fragments is a lot like that, actually. I'm sure that an alter could be the same way.

Thanks.

I do, but he won't answer all the times.

I am not sure about this. I know he was a kid (around 7), but he may "lose" his head and drive crazy. When he gets crazy he...is just paranoid, he doesn't have a personality anymore, he is just paranoid and says paranoid stuff. I talked to him two or three days ago...my head and I were alone, not talking with anyone else, so he calmed down and he said he was scared. Before I thought I was psychotic (I have other people in my head, not just this kid) and I called him "...".
I had psychosis, autism, schizophrenia, schizoaffective, bipolar...diagnosis. (They were wrong...)

He is a kid, I see his words in orange (is this normal? I am synesthesic, but I don't know if it is normal between people with Dissociative disorders). When He is a little mad, they become dark orange, and when he completely loses his head, the words are brown. He may appear in my room when he is mad, I didn't realized it was him :?

If he is still a kid, I can talk to him. If he has become paranoid, I can't do it anymore. His paranoid version is a little older than him, and more dark. Though, they are still the same...

That kid is always a little paranoid, anyway, but I can reassuring him. I can't do that anymore when he completely loses his head. I know when that happened the first time.
[TW] He was really mistrustful, but if an adult person was kind time enough, he lowered his guard. He had a special person (Even if that person wasn't lovely, she was the only one that didn't physically hurt him. So sad "She was special because she didn't beat me"), it was his babysitter. But his mother told the babysitter to beat him with a riding crop. She did. And even if she started to cry and to blame herself and the child ("Why have you done that??? Now I have to do this!!! I am sorry, I am sorry"), the child hid in his bedroom and lost his head. He put tacks in the whole floor and marbles, so if someone entered, he would be able to defend himself. He hid in his wardrobe and wait. Nothing happened. [TW]

...

I am not sure about if he is an alter or what....I have a lot of people in my head, as I said before. All of them are related with me...but some of them are like "fuzzy" or "mixed", are not whole people, but they still have their own memories. The kid and his paranoid version are not fuzzy anymore, and there are other three that are not fuzzy...but the rest are. I have two that have the same personality, but different identity (Different memories and feelings), so the personality appear a little different (And, actually, it is not...)

We've had a lot of alters -- many -- who arrive frightened by everthing and everyone. If you have a part who appears to be paranoid, no matter how irrational his thinking and behavior may seem now, at one point in your life it was reasonable. When literally everyone in your environment is part of the system of abuse, hypervigilance and distrust of everyone at first, is protective, physically and emotionally. Underlying most paranoia is fear, fear that anyone may be against you and hurt you. His current fear was once realistic. His behavior around the babysitter is entirely understandable to me. It was smart and the right thing to do at that time.

You're more likely to succeed in talking to him when he's not triggered and seeming paranoid. He's a child so needs to have things presented simply and calmly. Don't try to convince him of anything so much as suggest other ways to see the same situation. Let him know he's not alone and that others can help him when he becomes afraid if he'll just be open to being helped. Prove you're trustworthy in any way you can.

It's possible he has two states (or ages) but it could be that these are two alters, very connected to one another. A newly distinguished alter, Faolan, whose job has been to detach from people who hurt us -- and his behavior can definitely seem paranoid to me and to others -- wrote up a communication yesterday to get across to someone the hurt I (Johnny) was feeling. It was all so controlled and mature, it almost felt like me up front, except that he kept referring to Johnny, which seemed weird plus I can write better.

After he finished the letter -- a set of thoughts really -- his job was done and he grew relaxed in the body, to his normal state, which is a 14-year-old boy. We'd gotten his age as 14 but I'd never really seen the teen behind the cold adult-like behavior that's been his pattern. He's this great interesting kid doing what he saw was needed to be done but which now can be done more constructively. And now our cold, mature detacher is reading Black Beauty! Something has shifted indeed.

I'm pretty sure this has all been him. But I've had a couple other situations where I assumed two connected alters were one and that ended up being wrong.
