what is this phenomenon

Postby alizhee » Sat Apr 12, 2014 12:48 am

It happens, that I wake up in the night or in the morning and I do not remember any personal history or context to the room I wake up, even my own bedroom.
Sometimes I do recognize the room in factual recognition (=bed, chair...etc), but other times I do not recognize anything.
This is not a period of any seconds, but often of many minutes, I leave the room and go into the next one and have no memory of identity in the sense of emotional recognition, but only "factual" recognition.
Can anyone relate, what is this symptom of?
It is dissociation, is it derealization or is it time loss?
I do not understand.

I've had this happen before, I think it's more of a sleep disorder than a dissociative disorder, but I'm not sure.

The name for what you are describing is derealization. Derealization is a common dissociative symptom that usually is grouped with depersonalization. Depersonalization is both a whole cluster of symptoms, and in some cases is diagnosed as a distinct disorder. However, usually depersonalization (including derealization) is a symptom of another disorder such as DID, DDNOS, PTSD, severe borderline PD, severe bipolar, severe anxiety, severe depression, etc. Note the repetitive "severe". Not recognizing your own bedroom when you wake in the morning is a pretty good sign that your SUD is very high and you need help.

I am sorry, I need help.
I opened this thread apparently on Sat Apr 12, which was yesterday (4 hours ago), but I came from a trip yesterday night, I was not on the internet.
Is the date wrong?
I got a thought it hat I might had opened a post before the trip (a week ago) and I was not even sure about it, but now the date said yesterday,
I have no memory at all,
and in the last week I had described phenomenon a lot again,
I lost complete personal history,
I could not even remember my name for like 15 minutes.
But why does the date say Sat Apr 12?
It's not possible.

I am really confused and scared right now.

Alizhee, did you post here on Friday, before your trip? The time stamp on your previous post is just after Friday midnight . . . UTC. I don't know where on the planet you are, but there may be a large offset between UTC and your local time zone.

Una, in my memory I have opened this thread before Apr 5th.
Yesterday I remembered that I have opened a thread with this question, a very far away vague memory and I wanted to check for replies and then I saw that in fact I opened this thread only 4 hours before, but I have no memory about it, in my memory I did it before Apr 5th, but last time I have posted was in your thread about seeing aura, a couple weeks ago.
Do I make sense?
The time difference is 7 hours, it is not about that.
I seem to have some weird time-confusion going on or something, I don't know.

Here are all your posts: alizhee - Posts

All I can say is, well, none of this is unusual for someone with DID. Episodic memory problems are to be expected. If it would feel reassuring to you, you could install monitoring / tracking software on your computer, cell phone, and other communication devices. That would help you discover whatever "you" have been doing that you don't remember.

Thank you, Una.
The last post was on Feb 14.
Seems like I have time-confusion and a time-loss.
Maybe this tracking device is a good idea, because now I could only discover it because of the internet, otherwise I would not even know about it.
It is a scary thought.

that same feeling you're describing would happen to me with clothing, personal items, and sometime my vehicles.

sometimes instead of the non-emotional attachment it would just be disgust or disdain. only to find myself el f wearing/using/driving it sometime later.

how often does this happen to you?

Hi Alizhee,

Time confusion happens with DID. Relax. It's OK. It may just be a memory reshuffle. That's when you did it just fine, you just got mixed up on when you did what. Personally, I've given up trying to straighten those out.
