Revenge dreams???

Postby VanessaG » Fri Feb 21, 2014 1:49 am

I am very nervous about sharing his and asking for input. I have never told anyone about this. I am very ashamed and scared here is something really wrong with me.

****TRIGGER WARNIG*****

I have these dreams where I am hurting someone like I was hurt. They are very real and mirror my abuse. They are so vivid and have so many emotions attached. They somehow give me some kind of satisfaction mixed with horror that I would dream such horrible things.

I have never acted on any of the things I dream about, so I don't understand why I have them. Are they like revenge dreams?

They scare me because I don't want to hurt anyone and don't understand the origin of them.

Is this normal? Does anyone else experience this? If so what he hell???

That doesnt sound nice. The people you are hurting, who are they - strangers, people you care about, people who hurt you? Just wondered if they were trying to retaliate and hurt those who hurt them, or play out what happened so you can understand why they did it. Sorry, not much help but what I'm wondering

Humm...

I wanted to give you some of my thoughts, though I'm no expert. However, as soon as I read it, I wanted to respond to your post.

First of all, don't be ashamed of your dreams. I've read dreams are the language of the soul. Also that dreams are very symbolic, and the best person to decipher them are the person who dreams them 'coz each of us have the knowledge to unwrap the significance they hold. However, I know this sometimes says nothing, 'coz sometimes I've gotten no clue on what dreams, or my soul, want to tell me.

In the dream, are you sure it is you? Or could it be an alter? I'm wondering 'coz sometimes there are alters who represent/introject (¿?) the abuse within the system, and s/he might be communicating something. So the mixed feelings could be yours and that of your alter. An alter could be feeling some satisfaction of the abuse, only by mirroring what s/he lived, not because s/he feels pleasure of it.

Dreams are so weird. You don't need to have acted on them, to dream about them. So, I think it could be more about what they are trying to show you, instead of representing something you've done.

Have you tried asking anyone in your system? Maybe asking your ISH? Or meditating and channelling an answer? Dreams are not necessarily suppressed feelings.

I've dream about stabbing and killing an attacker, about having sex with very inappropriate people, and the list goes on.

So, no there's nothing wrong with you. Try not being scared and decipher the symbolism behind your dream.

You're very brave for sharing and asking. You'll find answers. 'Coz when you look for something the whole universe conspires to give you answers.

Take care.

Thank you Sea...you have helped me before and appreciate you very much...

I have been so scare something was wrong with me. That I want to hurt people to evoke revenge for how we were hurt...Its a relief to hear I'm ok and you have had similar crazy incomprehensible dreams...you have soothed my soul.

I will see if I can figure out who the dreams may belong to and see if I can make some sense of them.

Great!!

I wanna say that I don't have DID, however, don't feel discouraged by it, in feeling that the dream may be somehow totally different.

An introjection:

Wikipedia wrote:Introjection is a psychoanalytical term with a variety of meanings. Generally, it is regarded as the process where the subject replicates in itself behaviors, attributes or other fragments of the surrounding world, especially of other subjects. Cognate concepts are identification, incorporation,[1] and internalization. To use a simple example, a person who picks up traits from their friends (e.g., a person who begins frequently exclaiming "Ridiculous!" as a result of hearing a friend of theirs repeatedly doing the same) is introjecting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Introjection

So you see an action (v.g. an abuse), and a part of you unconsciously repeat that action on to others. Sometimes it could be the way our mother treat us, or the way problems were solved, so a part of you unconsciously could be mirroring in your dream what was done on to you.

Don't know what that means for you though. You are aware of the abuse... Could it be that an alter may be presenting him/her self?

Have a look at this post Carie, Una and Johnny-Jack mention something about the topic that could be useful:

Not allowed to have this and be this - post1366740.html#p1366740

I'm glad you're feeling better!!!

Hi there,

I have had revenge dreams for over ten years. For the past ten years I have suffered for night terrors from them.I often kill the person who hurt me!

I have discussed them with my t . I used to have just reoccurring dreams of the past over and over and them they changed back and forth to this.

Apparently in emdr therapy dreams and dream changes are very important because they mark changes in the dissociative barriers in our minds.

My change in dreamschanged even more so when I did emdr and apparently is a normal part of healing.

you are disturbed by the change of role and this is a mark of your character a validation of your moral code.

Your brain is working things out-it is doing the things at night, that you can't do when you are awake.

This is the emdr, Francine Shapiro theory and it worked for me. I forgave my self and in ding that and realising I am not that person, allowed myself to move pass that step.I haven't had one in ages.

You have done nothing wrong. Take care of you're self.

Well, I've got to admit that reading that thread helped me by making me know I'm not alone in having that kind of dreams...

They are however rare, and I still get more "classic" terrifying nightmares than revenge dreams. What is more troubling me is how unstable I am in real life... I sometimes feel dangerous, so I've decided to stay home for the next few days. Sorry to hijack the thread, back on topic !

But these dreams, and other kinds of troubling dreams, can they slow down recovery or therapy ? And how do you deal with them the next morning ? I'm not sure I can just plaster a happy smile on my face anymore.
