How Do You Know?

Postby Violarules » Fri Jan 17, 2014 11:18 pm

I was wondering how do you know if a thought, action or feeling is being caused by an alter?

That is a really good question. One way I know is if the experience is recurrent; if an alter is involved there tends to be a "signature" to it. It becomes a recognizable issue, theme, feeling, behavior.

I have some peculiar experiences now and then that seem to come out of nowhere and I have no idea what they are about or where they are coming from, but I also cannot pin them on any known alter. Some of these experiences I think may be projections from other people around me. Some may be "mine" but coming out of some ordinary ego state that just isn't very familiar to me. Everyone has ego states, and even a multiple can have ego states that are not dissociated.

Thanks Una+ :) I've notice a theme in terms of emotion, and behavior. When the alter seems to be out, I feel very confident in whatever it is I'm doing at the moment and usually I'm doing something that is a bad idea and that I would never think of doing. After the alter goes away, after the thing I'm doing is completed, I usually feel a strong sense of dread since I know nothing good will come of it.

That's interesting. I thought all full alters had ego states while fragments do not for the most part. Good to learn.

Just thought that I'd post a quick update: I've finally scheduled an appointment with my GP so I'm happy about that :) The thing is that it's not until May 19th but I guess doing it during the summer would be better than doing it during the school year. Anyway, hopefully I'll get some answers for the questions I have.

Well, it's easy for us. Each of our thoughts has a specific "voice" to it, and we can easily tell the voices apart.
