is this some type of dissociation?

Postby riddle » Fri Jan 17, 2014 8:39 am

hi :)

i'm just curious, but i've noticed that when i'm at my T's office, she's suddenly close to my face, then far away, even though she is sitting still in the same position.
this happens several times during my visits.

I'm not exactly sure but to me that sounds like a kind of psychosis :?

I don't think it is dissociation but it sounds like something that happens to me when I feel stressed.
I have ADHD. Possibly have another mental disorder but am not certain.

Like a dolly zoom?
(if you don't know that camera technique you can see it in this video: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... .480p.webm )
Yep. That falls under derealisation I believe. Derealisation is a form of dissocation.
That said, people who have migraines may experience the same effect as part of an aura.

hello there

I have this often with my T - i will see her in one place , then i am shocked because she is leaning forward and seems to be in my face.! I have big problems with personal space , so i tend to get anxious when i feel people are to close..

I have been told its because i am dissociating/ derealisation stuff. Basically my brain times and then when i come back the scene has changed and can be shocking.

I dont think it is psycosis because you dont seem to believe it is not real? I.e you are not losing grip of reality???!!

I am no expert but thought i would share my experience.

all the best

I have this a lot, things changing size, and subtle form- and color intensity- changes. It's derealization. I really used to live my life nearly constantly in this state of being for many years, at least the parts that I remember..
I have migraines too so idk. When I feel a migraine coming on I usually get very detached and autopilot-like. Light hurts my eyes and I may have some migraine-typical hallucinations like the weird stripes etc. It feels pretty different to me but maybe they're related?

thank you for the replies, i'm hoping it's not anything psychotic anyway, derealization is what sounds more right to me too i guess.
i guess the dolly zoom could be similar to what i experience, that has happened before...what i experience now is when i blink she's either very close or far away all of the sudden.

Thank you for the topic! I never thought of it as being something weird.

Sometimes (I don't remember how often because, as I said, I didn't thought were weird, but sometimes that get me into troubles) I experienced this kind of thing, like how TheCollective says, changing-sizes or some kind of change in the things I'm watching.

I do remember clearly one time in specific because mother was angry with me (don't remember why), but then I saw her away and close, and then she was enormous and I felt tiny, and... It was uncomfortable but apparently I was smiling? Because mother told me to stop taking it so lightly, that I always laughed when she scold me and when, began to scold me again, basically. lol

This is the same thing as the one riddle asked?
