I saw one out of the corner of my eye. it came to my bed...Looked like a shadow person.
It tried to stab me and I moved.
then at my nieces wedding, people asked why I looked pissed at the world.
Then I saw it leave my body. In a shadow.
I think it is one of my strongest protectors. Sometimes they leave and come into my body as shadows...

When I was younger I was bothered a lot by seeing a dark shadow by my bed and over me but it wasn't like an alter. I would go into more detail what it did but I don't think I can as it might trigger people :/

Before he took on his normal and Guardian forms, Birch often looked shadowy too and was very unnerving for us until we got to know him better. one of us actually thought he was an evil spirit that was following us.
we talked about why he looked like that a lot, and he said he made himself look frightening to keep us safe. (if I scare you, you'll listen to me and not get hurt by others.) As trust and connections were made between us, he took on his human form more and more, and will only shift into his Guardian form when he's extremely triggered or needs to save us from a bad situation.

Thank you for posting this. the host thought it was an evil spirit too. But he is one of our strongest protectors, and we call him Manny. The host was doing an internship at with sex offenders and therefore we needed her to be the strongest ever. That makes total sense why he would scare the host, in order to make her obey so she could not get killed or raped

It's a tried and true technique. I have grown since those days, our whole system has, and trust and cooperation has replaced the fear and intimidation techniques.
In our system, we have members that are sometimes looking to get hurt, and they still need to be scared back into place so that the whole system and body can remain safe (even if they don't see things this way).
As the situation gets better for you guys, the tactics needed to deal with situations will change and develop as well.

Thank for posting this Family. We have NEVER thought about Alt's that WANT to be hurt and seek it, but as soon as we read what you posted it hit a chord and light sort of clicked on.

My big protector was scary and shadow like in the beginning. He became less scary when I got to know him and started to understand that he was protecting.
I also have another shadow like figure who is still scary. She runs from room to room inside slamming doors. I can never fully see her and she is scary to me and others inside. We only know her name.

may trigger* I see this shadow figure called the hat man that so many other people see. But not an actual shadow alter. Mine is more due to the fact i have hallucinations from my schizophrenia when i do see them. But i havent seen him since i cast out my fear of him. This is the one hallucination that i see that other people have seen, so he may in fact be a spirit/demon that feeds on fear. Have you all ever seen him before? I feel like it was more likely a hallucination though, as it touched me and grabbed me and everything.
I survived psychiatric medications without getting bad side effects.

Hi there, no, we do not see the hat man. None of us are schizophrenic and also I cannot physically feel them when they touch me, but just hear them/see them.
