social networking problem?

Postby Secret_Cat » Mon Aug 26, 2013 1:40 am

So, I have a problem- I delete friends from facebook and stuff sometimes because I feel there's too many and get paranoid that so many people are seeing my stuff- lots of them are basically thouse I never talk to/were just added as courtesy because they were in my class, etc.

Problem is, some who I don't want to delete get deleted- not by accident, but because I think I don't know them well or even at all even though I do, but I just forgot that I did then; sometimes major people too, not just aquainences, such as one being the leader of a club I'm in. Aparently, there was one classmate I was very good friends with but I had no clue I was.

So, things get very awkward then, I can't just say that I forgot who they were- it would offend them, especially those I definitely knew more than aquaintences. And saying it was an accident every time will soon make people suspicious, especially those that its happened with a few multiple times.

I can't really think of anything to do about it though, so I was wondering if any of you had any ideas of what I could do to prevent this, or how I can explain it when people ask why i deleted them. Is there anything else I can say to get them to be okay with it without telling them about this?

If you're worried about people seeing things, you can create lists with filters so that only people on a particular list can see posts you make, this way you don't have to delete them out of fear of them seeing your stuff.
Our system has a few paranoid members like this and we've done this quite a few times ourselves
I'm sure you could message them and say it was a mistake and re-add them if it bothers you.

I just don't use facebook. People can call or text. I have their name with a one word tag to remind me how I know them. Maybe you could categorize your friends, ie. Class, club, work, etc.

I wish I could do that. I've tried not having one, but I help run some clubs on campus, and pretty much every club uses facebook to post events and things primarily, most people use it to learn about club happenings. As secretary of some clubs, I kinda need to use it to tell people stuff. Plus, whenever there's a group project, which there's lots of in my classes, they make a facebook group to communicate. Not having one at my college is basically tagging yourself as a social outcast. Sooooo not an option. =[

And yes, the lists seems like a very good idea, Familyof3. I always forget there's things like that. It's a good idea to make ones with tags, I never thought about doing that before! I can have one for classmates, one for clubs, etc. Thanks you. =]
