Trust is a big issue. It took us a long while to search for professional help.
And time too to find decent help (still not sure if I need to look further).

It s good they had their time to feel comfortable :)

Let us know how the next appointment goes :)

Love

It is difficult. All the time we were living in our last country we did not see any doctor. Before that we only went to the doctor to get papers for official things. Did not trust after they 'treated' us for anorexia. Not doctors even for physical illness, we did not go near them. Fixed every problem by ourselves.
But we like dentists. Never any problem with dentists. Like going to the dentist :) one of us got panic attacks and fainting and stuff but another told the dentist we don't take drugs and he was careful then with not giving us too much drug and we trusted him.
We have too many labels now. Lots of labels that only describe parts of our group. But we told the psychiatrist we are a group and we will tell the therapist too, that we are a group who struggle with the parts of our group who have labels and hurting.

Yes, thank you, we will write again about our next appointment :)

Just tried to make the appointment. The therapist is out of office for the next week and so we must wait and call again next week. I'm just noting that here that we will call again next week in case we try decide to pull out before then :)

I finally have an appointment with a therapist, in two weeks. She doesn't speak English, but she was recommended by my psychiatrist and its a short waiting time for an appointment, so definitely worth a try.

I've been feeling again that therapy isn't the answer for me. Emotionally I've been feeling very good, and lots of energy, motivation etc. Its like the DID, trauma etc. has slipped into the background. But it is there in the background and I know it. There are still enough signs/symptoms, and they seem even more separate from me than before. Well, as I have DID, it could be that I've just changed into a whole new personality which can't communicate as well with the others. No idea.

But I went ahead and made the appointment anyway, because I know I wanted this appointment before, and I'll just tell the therapist what I'm aware of and see if we can work together on this 'disorder'.

I hope the appointment goes well. I can relate so much to that feeling that therapy isn't the answer and 'I'm functioning OK so why bother?'. In my case, I know it's a defence mechanism against the kinds of things therapy might bring up. Anyway, well done for going ahead with the appointment.

Thanks Owleyes! I just can't think of what I'm going to the therapist for or what my goals for therapy are anymore. A friend was quizzing me on this yesterday and we didn't really get anywhere.. I guess I just go there and tell her what I'm aware of and if she's a good therapist we'll be able to work out issues and goals together?

That sounds like the best way to approach it. Starting therapy with DID is a slow process of building trust. You might well find that, even if you have a list of issues and goals, other parts might block you from talking about them when face to face with a therapist because they are not yet ready to trust or be 'exposed' to anyone else. If she's a good therapist, you'll be able to find a way of working together.
