Appointment tomorrow

Postby Rubyscarlet » Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:05 am

Tomorrow it's my appointment with the psychiatrist finally. I feel ready to tell her about the dissociative symptoms and hope we can make a start on getting diagnosis/treatment. I hope the right alter shows up for this appointment. If its me as I am today, we are fine. Nervous, but looking forward to hopefully moving forward.

I also have an appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow. I hope Rana is ready to show herself. I'm gonna tell what happened during these 2 weeks and all that stuff. I hope you'll be alright there. :)

Eve: Our Psychiatrist don't know about DID. *sigh* Even though Adam did tell her how therapist cure DID, she still tells Adam to ignore us. Now, the only reason we visit her is that we want to get the meds. I don't want her to ask Adam about his daily activities, I don't want her to ask what happened to us, all I want is the meds and that's it. *sigh* So, Rubyscarlet, how's your appointment?

It s so disheartening when bein told to ignore every valuable part of the system and to have some professional focus only on the host!
Suppression, yea, that s the solution. *shakes head*
I m sorry the appointment wasn t what you expected Adamz.

I hope you can find decent help in the future.

Rubyscarlet, how did your appointment go? I ve been thinking about you.

Love

I'm sorry to hear that AdamMZ. I hope you find some better help soon.

I'm confused about my appointment. It seemed to go very well and the psychiatrist understood everything I was talking about, about having other personalities with different memory sets etc. She gave me a recommendation of a therapist who she thinks would be very good for me and said that she would like for me to either integrate or get to the point where we are all co operating. She even said Ruby was also welcome to come to the appointment next time if she wanted!

However, I checked the diagnosis on my referral and she has diagnosed me borderline!! This is what I was afraid of, a misdiagnosis. I was worried about being diagnosed borderline or schizophrenic :( I don't understand because it seemed clear in the appointment that she was suggesting treatment for a dissociative disorder. I know that I am not borderline and I want to get the right treatment.

But maybe it is not possible to give a diagnosis of DID based on one appointment? Might that the reason? Should I just make the appointment with the therapist she suggested and aim for a different diagnosis and correct treatment from there?

Maybe it's my obsession with Ruby that got me the wrong diagnosis, could've sounded like I switch between two states. I should've mentioned Scarlet, Jak, Emily and the others... I don't have these borderline symptoms like getting angry inapproriately, threatening suicide, being impulsive or not wanting to be alone. None of those things. Only a couple of symptoms.
Hoping that's just a provisional diagnosis. I get the impression borderline is a bit of an umbrella diagnosis.
Guess I'm just a bit disappointed because it felt like I was being taken seriously.

Wow... nothing like giving the client a kick in the knee when they're not looking. Why didn't she discuss her diagnosis with you rather than just writing it on a sheet that you were inevitably going to look at? No wonder you are full up of questions and doubts. Is there any way to get clarification from this psychiatrist why she has given you that diagnosis? BPD shouldn't be used as a preliminary diagnosis. It is a completely different ballgame and carries such a stigma attached to it that to put it down on a referral sheet for the sake of just putting something down is careless. I hope that perhaps you can get in touch with the psychiatrist and have your queries answered - you have every right to.

I know. I'm very confused. It seemed pretty clear from her suggestion for treatment and the way she was talking to me that we were talking about DID or DDNOS. I know the symptoms for borderline, I have looked at posts on every board on this forum and here in this forum is definitely where I relate best. I don't relate very well to the posts on the borderline forum.
Yes, it's a pretty major diagnosis and I don't want to have a wrong diagnosis attached to me.
I should make another appointment and talk about it more. Maybe I should seek a second opinion too.
