I agree with all that Una says here. She is spot on.
However, Kluft reports that the alters already exist in the inner world and then are put into action, so to say, as needed. This actually makes sense to me and my experience.
(Note: In all humans, EP's can be made throughout life. This is a whole other story.)

Therefore what occurs is an ongoing separation of parts, rather than a "split or fracture" of one part from another.
