Medication and Alters.

Postby Hypo_tredec » Thu Apr 25, 2013 7:45 pm

I just had a psychiatric evaluation today (needed one so we can go back to school) and a was prescribed some anti-depressant and abilify. Would those affect the others in any way? If it's no good for them, then I don't want to take them.

On a side note, Bruce, my newest alter, finally came out from wherever he's been. He wasn't 'out' but he was definitely near. (I picked up his accent. It was noticeable.)

Well, you can try for three weeks and see.
Abilify could affect the others- but it's so atypical and esp. depending on the dosage the effects vary

(small dosages 2-5 mg anti-d, activating, 10- 15 mellowing out; the antypsychotic properties are not know to me- and also mind this is second hand knowledge, I am no doctor heh)

The antidepressants sometimes works so well (haha. SOMETIMES) they distance one so badly from things that nothing matters. So the whole things makes a circle just you end up content (not happy) instead of shaken and depressed. That could affect your 'peers' ;).

There is a time from a 1 to a week where the substances get cleared out from out of your system and so in 4 weeks you could be med-free again.

Main question is: do you feel you need the medications? And Those medications? You could always get a secret second opinion.

I think it depends on the person. I take Zoloft, Lithium, and Geodon and they don't effect my alters at all, even with the high dosages I'm on.

Test it out. It can take up to a month and a half for a medication to go into effect. But test it for as long as you feel comfortable.

You know I was wondering this today. I have been on 40mg of citalopram for about a decade now and I began wondering today what my system and I would be like off that medication. I'm thinking of very slowly tapering myself off to see... Might run that by my therapist tomorrow!

I take Zoloft for when it used to be just one of us. I don't need it to stop being depressed, because Kevin can be sent out and boom, no more depression! But I can still be depressed while taking them if I'm jealous of something or I get rejected in some way or another. The only reason I still take them is so I can wake up at 6:00am or else id wake up at 12:00pm

We have almost all the extreme side effects from medications so we have to be extremely careful. Almost every anti-depressant out there leaves us with such low-blood pressure we can't function and we have a penchant for developing seizures if there's even an inclining of a chance. If any of the kids are out when I've taken a med/have a med in my system and there's a chance of a respiratory response then I usually have it which I guess corresponds with my having had asthma quite badly as a child. Psychosomatic response?

Like Roic16 said, the same can be done with Ellie - send her out and boom! No more depression! It's fairly amazing.

We can too. It's like having a natural anti-depressant :)

we got cassandra to stop taking her bipolar meds, she was on lamotragine or something, because they would not only make her feel empty and hollow, but they'd block us out from cassandra's awareness and hearing and such, and they'd block out cassandra from the inner world.

i think meds are going to affect everyone, and sometimes alters, differently. if nothing else, you could always give meds a try, and take notes on how they affect you, and let alters leave notes on how/if they affect them as well.
