Yelp. Timeline?

Postby Teatime » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:31 pm

Ho

Our T asked us to do a timeline..
and we've been struggling with that all week.

The only way I can get close is to let everybody write.. which looks kind of mental on the page. Not that our scripts are all that different from each other.. but when I look at my colleagues' writing at work it always seems to look so damn samey.. and I am not sure I can let the T see that (scares Mara sh*tless).

In any case when we all write it eventually deteriorates into an internal conversation on paper, rather than a timeline..

I guess even if we hand over the mutli-script version the T won't bat an eyelash but even so.. the timeline is kind of all over the place because everybody remembers their own stuff (though we have a general understanding of each other's timelines). So the whole thing is never chronological.

I thought about putting seperate events on post-it notes and moving them around afterwards until they are roughly chronological but I keep getting drowsy/bored and it's confusing to switch over all the time and stop writing after just one event rather than each of us doing their own timeline.. and if I type it up Mara just owns the whole thing and nobody elses stuff gets mentioned.

Argh.
Anybody found a trick for doing a reasonable timeline?
How did you compile yours?

We made a journal page on our computer, that way it can be edited over and over again. When we got new memories we would try to get an approximate age or time (eg the period when I was at that school, or when I lived there) if I don't know the age. It takes time and ours is still not complete but I think it works pretty good to do it on the computer. We don't work on it all the time just when we feel up to it, otherwise we purposely don't write it down cause it might be too much. We got to know a big lost portion of our life and when we forget it again we could always read it back that way we can train ourself to remember our life. Be sure to place trigger warnings though cause it's overwhelming to read all the stuff lined up.

Thanks :)
Just sucks, because Mara deletes stuff she doesn't agree with.
I guess we'll just have to meet in the middle..

And I bet she also knows your passwords? otherwise you could make one she doesn't know about so she wont have access to your timeline. we deleted stuff too it was mostly just that we eventually agreed we shouldn't do that anymore. maybe you could agree that she writes next to it that she doesn't agree with it?

I do now - didn't use to until we started coming here last month. So there is a blog that used to be administered by Mal alone because he was the only one with the passwords.. we could just post to it via email. But now it belongs to all of us. Unfortunately it doesn't provide a chronology though ;)

I am trying not to be so.. restrictive. And they all know I am learning to let them be. I guess I just need to see this stuff written down sometimes to realise I am messing with things I shouldn't be.

The T only wants two pages of A4 for now.. so there'll have to be some editing in the end.. but maybe one of the Others should take care of that, Rae maybe

Thanks for your help :)

we do it with lots of communication, and try to go by ages and school years (since we remember by school years best in general). before we knew hawk, who seems to be able to access memories and information from just about anyone/everyone, we'd also have alters come out and add in stuff they knew/remembered for their part of the timeline if they had one (like kyra, she was host for one year, during 8th grade, and now that she's back with us, we're going to have her help fill out that timeline a bit more and help us out with details and such). we also use a ton of cross-referencing with each other for putting memories in order (stuff like "this happened before that, i know that", "yeah, but this went before this", "and this went inbetween that", etc), and we were glad that we kept diaries for some of the years because looking back through those has helped us a lot too. oh and also going by what friends we had to help us know what year and such, where we were at, what was going on at the time, all that stuff can help us sort out our timeline and dates and years and such.
