difference between Dissociative Identity / Depersonalization

Postby Guest » Fri Apr 14, 2006 1:07 am

Whats the difference?

And a few questions...

1. Alters -> Can they be social with some people... and not others? and can they sometimes be social with people... and then BAM become very unsocial with the same people?
2. Muscle spasms -> I want to call this partial seizures.. because thats what it seems like... like they just went into an uncontrolled state that last 1-3 seconds... like they have been shocked.
3. Loss of time/amnesia -> Would this be referred to ...in example... so the person wants to get milk out of the fridge... but once they open the door they just stare inside the fridge for a few seconds and then close the door... doesnt take anything out and then moves on... sometimes I find they retrace their steps following the exact same path... open the door... and finally take the milk out.
4. Loss of time/amnesia -> Another example... lets say youre in a conversation and you ask the person a question or change topic... but they completely disregard it because they still continue to talk about the previous topic.... but 5, 10, 30 mins later... or sometimes hours later they will randomly respond to the later question/change of topic. Any explanations??
5. People think the person is delusional... thinking the person has an euphoric high... even though drug use is absent. The person becomes very offended.

Sorry this is so impersonal, but it may answer all your above questions.

Thanks, I will read over that website when it coincides with my time later today.

6. Loss of time/amnesia -> I had the person sign some papers... and they hesitate, it takes an abnormally long duration to write a signature and a date. Sometimes they will sign 3 letters in the name and then stop... hesitate.. and continue... writing the date I observed ... hesitate... 2006... hesitate... 13... hesitate... 04.

The date would be 20061304.

7. Fascination -> to music... certain art/images/designs/color layouts.

8. Loss of time/amnesia -> I will reiterate on the Milk in the fridge example.

The person wants to get milk out of the fridge... but once they open the door they just stare inside the fridge for a few seconds and then close the door... doesnt take anything out and then moves on to get an empty glass sets it on the counter... looks around... retraces steps and finally gets the milk.

Another example.

Person wants to get something from a drawer... passes the drawer... circles around and goes back to the drawer.

Another.

Person is looking for keys, the keys are where they left them last but yet they check the area where they keep the keys and fails to pick up the keys.

----

Some of these situations are laughable... but yet Im saddened and yet its a serious issue. Whatever is going on with this person he has lost his life... his friends... his mom, dad, sister do not know who he is anymore. This person has made a change like the difference between Night and Day.

This particular patient was involved in a car wreck where a car hit his car, it rolled over in a 15ft drop in a ditch, he was not injured in anyway, the car was totaled... witnesses say he got out of the car and was smiling and looked as if he didnt know what had happened.

Usually we could blame these characteristics on an accident but Ive been told the patient according to friends/parents had these same symptoms before the accident.

Im clueless.
