Hello I'm new!

Postby FaithinWrongthings » Wed Mar 13, 2013 3:53 am

:D my name is jackilyn, I'm the "core" as I call myself. Just a intro I'm a teen and have 9* alters, starting from youngest, Chrissy, who is three and practically unresponsive, the Jacob whom is 5, Eliza, an outgoing six year old, then Amy, a self destructive 9 year old, Penelope a very problematic but still loved 12 year old, then Patrick, a gay 16 year old, Sam 17-22 year old, then "mom" a controlling 32 year old. I hope I didn't miss anyone  I feel so bad ok and Maey, who is 14 like me and ages, but her birthday is unknown. I know our gang has more members but they have yet to formerly introduce them selves. Like I said I'm new here, you all seem like very supportive people so please don't mind if I seem to bombard you with questions hahahhaah.:) only my mom and some people at school including a few teachers know about my DID and I am currently not undergoing any treatment. Finding a therapist is a work in progress:/ well that's not en close to bieng about it. and yep this is me and the gang!

Hello :) I'm Adam and I've just joined a few minutes ago too, my girlfriend has DID and she has many alters, she can even invent them on the spot if she concentrates hard enough. Only me and her councilor knows about her DID and I only knew what it was when I came to this forum

Hello Adam. Umm she can invent them on the spot? I don't think that's how DID works. Alters are formed to cope with intense child hood trauma. Ive never heard of anyone bieng able to create alters for no reason........ But I shall be supportive!

My girlfriend has had a very traumatic childhood, a lot of the time her alters are younger versions of herself, similar in age to when she experienced a lot of trauma. I know it might sound a little different, but i'm pretty sure it is DID, I've been up all night trying to figure out what it is once and for all. Ive been with her for nearly 4 years and have seen her at her best and at her worst when an alter has taken control.

Do you mind me asking you if you are ever worried about your alters? do you ever mistrust them?

hello and welcome! i hope you like this place.

these are some threads that might be helpful to you and others:

this thread has resource websites and organized threads from this forum that discuss discovery experiences, communicating with alters, all about alters, conflicts within the system, all about inner worlds, common questions, doubt/denial issues, how to help alters (like angry alters, depressed alters, etc), therapy issues, relationship stuff, and more:
-- DDNOS/DID Resources: http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic100829.html

this thread focuses on the "causes" of DID, DID development, switching/co-consciousness/co-hosting (what they are and can be like), doubt/denial, and has a couple great threads on communicating/accepting/understanding/working with alters:
-- For all who question how they have DID/think their's is odd: http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic104081.html

hope you find this place helpful!

um, that's not how DID works, not for anyone, no matter how traumatic their childhood was... people can think they can develop/create alters on the spot, but that's not how it truly works...

these threads might be of interest to you:

-- Is there such a thing as splitting?: http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic101763.html

-- I, the host, a part just like the others? (Possibly slightly triggering): http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic101732.html

-- (a thread that's good to read after the above one)
What makes me the host? (Possibly slightly triggering): http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic101850.html

-- ANPs, EPs, DID and teritiary dissociation (discusses DID terminology, alter roles): http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic102340.html

If alters cannot be created through concentration, then what is it? there are a few of her "characters" which are always there, but then loads which kind of appear and then never come back

thank you for the links

it's the disruption of the personality developmental processes during childhood and neurons.

*trigger warning DID development*

everyone is born with neurons that make up their personality.

with normal development, during childhood, these neurons will structure together, kinda "melding" together, some will be kept, others gotten rid of, and the neurons will structure together to form in the end a whole personality.

with DID development, this structuring process is disrupted/interrupted by trauma or the "side effects" of trauma, so the neurons do not become structured or kinda "melded" together, and stay separated. these separated neurons create "sides" of the personality which later create/develop into alters, fragments, parts, etc.

so basically, with DID, you "start out" split.

however, alters/parts don't develop all at the same rate, nor do they come into conscious awareness or knowledge at the same rate/time.

the "sides" begin to develop as alters starting when the alter/part is first needed, either as a protector, a caretaker, a secret-keeper, etc. that's when they go from "neuron blueprints" to "developing alters/parts/fragments". and then, since they're parts of a personality/person, over time and with experiences and such, they get more developed, sometimes more separated, just as any other person does/would. so it can seem like people are "splitting" more when what's actually happening is that's the first conscious awareness of an alter/part, or it's the further development that's happening consciously of an alter/part, or it's the first time that "side"/"neuron blueprint" was needed to begin developing as an alter. but there is always a need, a true need, not just a "i've decided to concentrate and make an alter" need. what your girlfriend may be doing is concentrating and helping other alters/parts to surface, or to become known about consciously, or to start developing further on a conscious level, but she's not actually creating them just from concentrating and deciding to. there must be the "sides/neuron blueprints" first and there must be a need, and most often times, a new alter is not actually new to existence, but new to conscious awareness and knowledge (sometimes to everyone in the system! there are many times where alters don't know about the existence of other alters).

and with alters/parts that appear then never come back, they could be fragments that have integrated with another part/fragment or an alter, they could be alters that mostly stay inside (we have a couple alters that don't come out for years at a time, and might never come out unless there's something they want to come out for), or they could be "sleeping" inside, or they could be alters that have integrated with other parts/alters, or something like that.

   (sorry if i was too forward)

I believe Johnny-Jack have talked before about the creation of one of his alters where he thought he would make someone, if he really had DID - and then did. I don't know how that works, though.

DID is very personal and different for everyone. Best of luck figuring everything out and welcome here :)
