Did this really happen? **Trigger**

Postby user110867 » Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:22 am

I got a flashback the other day. In the flashback I was laying on my old bed, with some bruises on my collarbone, but I was looking at it from the perspective of being out of my body and hovering over myself looking. It was only a split second. Do you think something happened or could this just be a false memory? Have any of you experienced a situation like that?

I get that all the time. I'm usually not in my own body, but off to the side, literally. I know for a fact mine are real, because I have cross references. That means most likely, so are yours. You most likely knew the area well, so you just transposed your point of view to another area. It may have been someone else's memory and that's why you saw it like that.
I hope this is of some assistance.

I've often asked the same question, with flashes of abuse. Did it really happen? Or am I just making things up? But, although it can be / is important to know in the end, for now it may be more useful to just look at the effect. Does it distress you? Then, whether they're real or not, something has to be done with it. I've somewhat separated knowing whether it is real (which I just don't/can't know yet) from dealing with it, for this reason.

we've had experiences like this before.

usually with stuff like this and with DID, it's rarely a false memory. usually the most common false memories are those that have different endings to what really happened, or have been twisted by what others (usually abusers) told you/lied to you about what was real, or something like that. but disscociative memories like out of body stuff is usually a real memory and was something that actually happened.

That's what I figured. That is good, in that my memories aren't fake.
It's bad in that my memories aren't fake.

Even if they were... It causes a problem, and the problem has to be dealt with, or it persists. A problem is a problem.
