Therapy Techniques

Postby wronglesson » Wed Feb 06, 2013 4:21 am

Since I just started therapy, I'm a little nervous about how it will progress. So I was wondering: What sort of techniques do you therapists use? From talking to other things, I know there's got to be a few.

M therapist wants to start me on EMDR on our next appointment. I barely understood what it is and what I do during.

So, yeah, therapy techniques?

(I just saw this thread had no replies and was posted long ago so I thought I'd write my things here)

My T doesn't use special techniques I think. Now I think of it - what am I actually doing there? :? I don't lose time, right?

We've mainly talked about... things that caused dissociation, just to understand what's going on I guess. And we talked about my (first thought 'our' :?), well, our home situation (if you prefer ). And... memories? That aren't really there? And... ? :?
Somehow, my memory is quite fuzzy right now. Maybe I'll come back once I have my memories more in line :?

-us? a mixture? whatever. this account. Don't know.
Dx: PDD-NOS. Tested for dissociative disorders and PTSD but they say the symptoms are attributable to PDD-NOS.

Hi, I just wanted to say to let therapy unfold as its meant to. My T uses EMDR sometimes, but mostly we just talk, or she talks to the alters. All of us like EMDR. She uses it to help us process a memory that we struggle with. It helps calm down the overwhelming feelings. We like it because you don't have to think about it. It reaches all parts if the brain, but mostly the emotions. Sometimes if we try too hard and try to say the right thing, then it doesn't work as well. But as long as your T has experience treating DID, then I would suggest trying to just trust the process without over thinking it. Hope this helps, Alysone

That does help, especially since I was a little confused over the purpose of EMDR.

I'm my therapists first DID patient, but she's had experience with dissociation and trauma. She actually asked me to ask everyone here what techniques they've gone through, as she wants to make sure everything is compatible with DID that she's doing. She wanted real life ideas along with what she is reading up on.
