I have a 16 yr old girl in my life with DID...just like my son. She has confided in me regarding some abuse and was told that it was 'too late' to press charges against the abuser. Through contacting law enforcement, child advocacy center, etc... I've let her know it isn't too late.
We know where this person lives and he has even shown up to remind her he is still 'watching'. What a @#$#%!!! She has decided (bravely) to file a report against him and we are getting a restraining order as soon as possible as well. In our state, there is no statute of limitations for SA. I'm going to be with her every step of the way because her current caretakers/family haven't/won't. I'm so glad to know that they can still arrest him and hope that not only will this help her to feel more safe - when found guilty - he will have to register on the (sex offender) list and hopefully prevent his access to others...
Send us good thoughts/prayers this week as she will have to go through such personal interviews/information... and know that it may not be too late if you desire to take action against someone who has hurt you. I am very angry that her parents fed her this lie out of ignorance or apathy!
((much love to all of you who have been hurt and not had the justice you deserve yet! I'd take all those b@st@rds on for you if I could!!!))
