Meeting others with D.I.D

Postby Fightforlife » Fri Dec 07, 2012 11:34 am

Hello

We were just thinking what it might be like to meet another person with D.I.D or DDNOS..
We don't know if this would be a good idea or not.

But how do we go about it? I might start having some treatment from various places, but that will be one to one. Maybe they will have some links for my area in the UK. Maybe there is another forum about the place :?

I've been feeling kinda lonely in what I experience lately, and think talking to another person in person who understands might help.
You are all great too :)

Thanks

Hi Fightforlife. :)

We have a friend with DID.

I'd say that the number one issue to deal with is to make sure that you don't trigger each other! ;) Or worsen each other's condition via reinforcing the old bad habits **(example cutting).**

When you know how to live with your own DID, you know how to behave around other DID-people. ^_^ Trust your guts!

I have thought about if this would be helpful or not as well. It kinda feels like a big secret we keep from everyone else in the world. And to open up about all the experiences we have to someone that experiences the same would give it a feeling of normalcy. I have only told a few (all non-DID) people that I have DID, and they have all been supportive. So if there are people that you feel close to, maybe think about talking with them?
Diagnosis: DID

Is there anybody in England too on here? I think there was some. I'm in Norfolk. Might be worth me seeing if there's anyone in that area though. Just comforting to know there are others around at least.
Thanks for the help x

Problem is, I wouldn't just tell publicly on the net that I am here and struggling with dissociation, maybe DID. I would never put my real name or location on here. That is the whole point why I come here, because of the anonymity (as far as it goes). I'm not living in England, but that may not be too hard to see :D.
Dx: PDD-NOS. Tested for dissociative disorders and PTSD but they say the symptoms are attributable to PDD-NOS.

I know someone else with DID, but we trigger each other too much - or at least there is too much history between us. Our gaurds kinda loathe each other, so we don't speak right now. Later yes, but I like what someone else said about knowing how to behave around someone else with DID. It isn't easy.
no longer DX of DID. PTSD.

Yeh I guess a few of us inside want anonymity, perhaps that is enough for now, and yes it is very useful to have that on the Internet. Some of the outies still feel like they could use some help or support on the outside probably. Perhaps it would be too much though and be unsafe if we triggered each other.

I had a couple of really bad experiences with people claiming to have DID and then a multiple who was also very, very manipulative. In the hospital, I met lots of people with DID and connected with them on a real level, but the hospital isn't the best place to make friends. :-/

I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't have friends with DID also, but it's hard. Someone else said it's hard not to trigger other people, and that's very true.
We're not invited.
