alrite. skype:

it downloads and installs in no time. go to www.skype.com, click downloads, and if you have windows, click get skype for windows. if you are on a mac, go to the mac link at the bottom and then click to get skype.

it will install, you will be guided through the entire process. there will be ads trying to get you to download Bing or something - just uncheck the boxes. you will be asked for your name, email address, a skype username, and a password. your name is not private, but you can change it any time you want and to anything you want once you sign up.

once you are in, go to 'contacts' in the top left corner, click 'add a contact', 'search directory', and type in 'whoami2222'. thats my skype name. you will see a picture of two silhouettes with laptops, next to the picture, it will say 'james and janice, United States'. click that and add me. skype will send me a friend request and ill show up in the contacts list on the left of the screen. you can send a message by typing into the box at the bottom middle of the screen - the one that says 'send a message'. if you want to add Jess, her skype name is 'daydreamerz14' and her picture is a fairly floating above water. if you want to add LElly, her skype name is 'LEll2012', her picture is a little blonde girl with a big white bow. Jen's account is 'jen.d2005'.

to change your name or picture, go click your name in the upper left of the screen. click profile. then click whatever you want to change - name or picture. you cannot change your skype username.

to change your status (online, offline, invisible, away), click the cloud next to your name in the upper left and select from the choices.

its pretty self explanatory, but if you do run into any trouble, just shoot us a text. if no one replies, you can call the number (just let it ring once - you dont have to wait for an answer. the ring will wake someone up or get someones attention).

dnd:

i dont care which version we play. Jess knows 3.5, but i dont really know much about either version, so either one is fine with me. if we play 4th ed, i wont have any resources (but i dont suppose i need any?), and if we play 3.5 ed, i have a stack of books almost up to my knees (which im sure i dont need anyway?). so whichever one is fine. we just want to play. : )

I'm pretty sure we're AliasForAFew on skype... I (or they?) made a new account because no one could remember the first one...
As for the editions... no worries on that one, 4.0 is a little more user-friendly than 3.5, but it's really just preference. 3.5 is more roleplay focused while 4.0 tends to be a little more combat focused. My SO has a bunch of 4th edition books, so we're fine no matter which version we end up playing.

I might possibly be able to "DM"? I've participated in sessions, however I am more one to hold the power... I play fair, of course.

jess says that if you want power, then the dm is the last position you want. she says that the dm creates the scenario and such, but once it goes from your mind to the actual gameplay, you have no power. the players will walk all over you and crush your plans and you will feel completely powerless to control the direction your own story is taking, and they will crush your every plot and send you spiraling off into oblivion.

wow. i think she has some issues with being a dm herself. haha.

It does indeed sound as though someone has had a poor DMing experience. The power I seek isn't necessarily completely about control, if you can understand. The DM is meant to nudge their players along in certain directions. Part of the fun of a fantasy role playing game, however, is for the players to create their own adventure. I would not see that strict guidelines were adhered to, but simply make sure that those participating were enjoying themselves in the tasks they choose to complete. A basic story should be kept in mind, and part of the job is to somehow tie everything together in the long run. That is also part of the fun of being a DM.

And if all else fails, kill everyone with an onslaught of mighty dragons.

He's kidding about that last part... He wouldn't do that. ^-^"

haha. jess has had tons of dm experience. and yes, she does love it. but one of the complaints from every dm is that the players are too unpredictable. its hard to nudge them sometimes, and you are constantly revising. things rarely go according to plan. so its a lot of work and she doesnt want you to get into it if you are going to regret it later. she was just being dramatic. she wants to make it very clear that she loves to dm.

and we all caught that he was kidding. jess does the same thing. she likes to have the players plotting against her and she acts like her main goal is to kill them all off in the most entertaining way possible.
