Talking to other people's alters

Postby Fightforlife » Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:36 pm

Hi, as I'm new here, and dont know much about dissociation yet, this may be a silly question with an obvious answer,
But I feel like I've just arrived in a playground and my different personalities want to go and mix with other people's different alters. So I was wondering if this is ok to let them do so, and run around the playground so to speak, and meet people of their own age, as some will want to talk to ones and not others etc. I feel like a parent giving my kids permission to go and mingle, and feel proud at the same time that they can meet people like themselves. I even feel like I could drop my young ones off in this 'daycare school' and pick them up at the end of the day  it might give me adult alters a bit of piece and quiet too.
Do your alters mix separately here as well? Does it work well? I guess it does feel like I've got separate people and lives going on. Think my child personalities feel they'd like to come out here more but might be feeling a bit shy. (I didn't know I could have different friends for different alters before, I'm a bit worried how were going to deal with this and each having separate friends)

Yes and yes.

Cassie's had friends that she PMs, and friends that she talks to in certain threads (like the "For the littles" thread).

It doesn't have to be that separate, but it can be. The best thing to do to help it not get too crazy- set up certain times that alters can be on here and talk to their friends. Certain days, even. That way, they always know they'll get a chance on here, but it's not eating up your life. (Because trust me, it's easy to continuously spend 12 hrs day after day on here if you let everyone reply to everything they want to all the time). Also, have your alters keep lists of their friends. It helps there to not be any "strangers" or "surprise people", and it can help in organization.

Don't worry if any littles are shy. We've had plenty of shy littles here. They don't have to post until they're ready, and even then, they don't have to say anything until they're ready. They can start by posting smiley faces, or pictures they want to share, or something like that. There's no pressure. :D

Thanks for the reassurance and kindness, I will let my 'littles' know..

Don't worry I didn't feel they would go crazy, I guess like two posts feels crazy to them as they've haven't got to express themselves much before, so it won't be very noticeable to others, not yet anyway, I don't think they will make a sudden emergence all at once.

Thanks for the tips on organisation and avoiding strangers, so to speak. Will try and look after the littles, and perhaps give them a time and place where they can come on.

xx

Hello there and welcome.....This site is very interesting for us much in the same way that you have expressed but we all come here for different reasons....I come here for a better understanding of what we go through on a daily basis and I think in many ways it help me not to feel so alone in it all. BT comes here because she wants to help if she can even though she is hesitant many time to post in response .... However fro Little Tara she is very happy that she has a place once again that she can talk to people and interact with other kids as well as even other adults but even her postings have been sporadic if something catches her attention she will respond to it and going back and reading her posts always makes me smile.

It is a safe haven in a chaotic world and thats what I think is most important to remember the majority of the people here are here because of that same exact reason its a safe place to just be in any state or alter they may be in.

Hi cassie :D M here on 'blue's' behalf. I'm sure she will really love the smiles when she sees them, and hopefully answer some of your questions. Thanks for being friendly to us. I think blue is 'in her room at the moment with the door shut' having a quiet time. Hope she'll come out to talk to you soon.

Lots of love from all of us.
